Duties Summary This position is responsible for the management and operation of a farm program, including the direct supervision over crew leaders and farm laborers engaged in performing the various farming activities; keeping records and preparing reports; the proper operation and maintenance of farm equipment; and performing other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualification Requirements To qualify, applicants must meet all of the following requirements:
Legal Authorization To Work Requirement : The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
Basic Requirement : Experience (paid or unpaid), education, training or any combination thereof, which demonstrates the ability to read, comprehend and apply written and oral directions; and the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
General Experience : Three (3) years of responsible farm work experience in one or a combination of the following areas:
Plant/crop production experience including planting, propagating, harvesting, soil conservation, fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides; identification, prevention, eradication and control of plant disease and pests; knowledge of crop growth characteristics; and related farming practices.
Livestock and/or poultry care and management experience including feeding methods, disease prevention, safety and sanitation practices, and basic maintenance of farm equipment; familiarity with supervision of others.
Substitution Of Education For General Experience
Study at an accredited university, community college, junior college or vocational/technical school in agriculture may be substituted for experience as follows: Fifteen semester hours for six (6) months of experience, provided coursework included a minimum of one course in plant/crop propagation and/or livestock management, up to a maximum of two (2) years of general experience.

Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) Requirement:
Federal law states that an agency shall not hire or promote anyone who may have contact with inmates and who has engaged in sexual abuse or related disqualifications.
Driver's License:
Applicants must possess a valid driver's license at the time of appointment.
