Senior Mechanical Engineers
to lead sustainability and energy optimization initiatives for a large, multi-site client in the Boston area. This position plays a critical role in evaluating, modernizing, and transforming building systems to reduce energy consumption, carbon emissions, and utility costs—while helping shape a long-term sustainability master plan.
Senior Mechanical Engineer Position Overview:
The Senior Mechanical Engineer will partner closely with internal teams and client facility personnel to assess current infrastructure, define improvement strategies, and oversee the implementation of energy conservation measures. This role requires technical expertise in HVAC systems, energy audits, MEP engineering, and decarbonization planning—along with strong communication skills to present findings and gain alignment with stakeholders.
Senior Mechanical Engineer Responsibilities:
Benchmark energy use and emissions across existing facilities and identify opportunities for improvement.
Conduct comprehensive site audits to assess mechanical systems, central plants, and controls.
Review drawings and facility documentation; gather key input from onsite operations teams.
Use energy modeling tools and custom spreadsheets to estimate savings and validate assumptions.
Assist in conceptualizing a 10-year sustainability and electrification roadmap for facilities.
Develop technical reports summarizing findings, recommendations, and business case justifications.
Complete utility-funded Technical Assistance studies to support energy incentive applications.
Produce construction-level documents (drawings/specs) for mechanical upgrades and retrofits.
Monitor progress against sustainability targets and assist with tracking/reporting metrics.
Perform peer reviews of renovation/new construction plans for alignment with sustainability standards.
Collaborate across technical and facility teams to maintain a productive working relationship.
Senior Mechanical Engineer Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (required)
10+ years of mechanical engineering experience with commercial or institutional buildings
Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
Strong background in HVAC design, retro-commissioning, and energy modeling
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD; familiarity with energy analysis software
Effective communicator and presenter—able to interact with technical and non-technical audiences
Highly organized, self-directed, and adaptable to changing project priorities
Willingness to travel locally as needed to support client site assessments
Ability to work well in a remote or hybrid environment with minimal oversight
