Tax Senior Manager, State and Local Tax - Credits & Incentives Minneapolis, MN, United States Overview Job Description Job Summary :

The Credits & Incentives SALT Senior Manager is responsible for advising clients of the credit & incentive opportunities relating to their business objectives, recommending alternate courses of action, as well as identifying different methods of complying with credits & incentives statutes and regulations. In this role, the Senior Manager will be charged with marketing, networking and business development within their area of experience and specialization and recognizing potential changes in credit & incentives policy. In addition, the Credits & Incentives SALT Senior Manager will work with the Core Tax Partners, and Directors to provide credits & incentives expertise to their clients.

Research: Identifies complex credits & incentives situations when research is necessary, providing an outline of the issue(s) and the appropriate source of research to be conducted.

Tax Compliance: Conducts detailed reviews of income tax returns with the ability to identify most significant statutory credit opportunities; evaluates client’s current compliance processes and provides customized and automated solutions for companies to comply with their annual credits & incentives reporting.

Tax Consulting: Drafts credits & incentives memorandums and other documentation on various credits & incentives issues; conducts review of client operations to determine in which jurisdictions credits & incentives opportunities may exist; applies all applicable state tax consulting sub-specialties and confers with other STS professionals when appropriate.

Engagement Management: Ensures tax engagement letters are adopted prior to engagement work commencing and manages engagements; assists in the development of consultative credits & incentives strategies; manages the expectations of assigned clients.

Tax Controversy: Drafts responses to notices from state taxing authorities; represents clients before any tax authority on credits & incentives issues; provides assistance with exam support.

Tax-Related Software: Utilizes credits & incentives research databases and other software in the completion of assigned tasks; provides technical client service to multi-state companies on credits & incentives matters; conducts negotiation on credits & incentives matters; drafts technical memoranda regarding credits & incentives issues; reviews studies of opportunities to identify alternative courses of action to benefit clients; develops new or improved ideas to maximize credits & incentives awards; assists with researching strategies; suggests marketing approaches for new client acquisition; performs other duties as required.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervises the day-to-day workload of STS SALT Senior Associates and Associates on assigned engagements; ensures training on tax software; evaluates performance and assists in developing goals; delivers performance feedback and evaluations; acts as Career Advisor where appropriate.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Education :

Bachelors degree in Accounting or another relevant field, required

Masters degree in Accounting / Taxation or J.D., preferred

Experience :

Eight (8) or more years of prior experience in state and local / multistate experience required in the credits & incentives area, required

Prior experience supervising tax professionals on a project or engagement basis, required

Prior experience preparing and / or reviewing tax provisions, preferred

License / Certifications :

CPA certification or other relevant certification, required

Software :

Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel and Word, required

Exposure to and familiarity with standard tax applications and research tools, preferred

Language: N / A

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Superior analytical and research skills

Strong organizational skills and ability to meet project deadlines with attention to detail

Ability to multi-task and work independently or within a team; handle multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment

Experience managing a team of tax professionals and delegating work; build and maintain relationships with internal and client personnel

Executive presence; act as primary contact on assigned engagements; ability to interact with professionals at all levels

Advanced knowledge of tax standards for credits & incentives services and sources of information used in filings

Salary and ranges:

Individual salaries offered to candidates are determined after consideration of qualifications, experience, skills, and geography.

National Range: $99,750 - $262,500

Maryland Range: $99,750 - $262,500

NYC / Long Island / Westchester Range : $99,750 - $262,500

Washington DC Range : $99,750 - $262,500
