Air Reserve Technician Position
This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. ARTs are part of the regular career civil service and enjoy all the benefits granted to Federal employees in the competitive civil service. Individuals selected for ART positions must meet both civilian qualifications and uniformed military requirements. In addition to meeting civilian qualifications, applicants must obtain military membership in the Air Force Reserve, wear the uniform, maintain job-specific military specialty requirements, and meet other military qualifications such as age, height, weight, and physical fitness standards. The primary purpose of this position is: To serve as an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position, in conjunction with the Production Superintendent (Pro Super), to assign priorities to aircraft production efforts, to direct action to resolve resource shortages, to maintain liaison among aircraft maintenance management, and to provide training to reservists in the accomplishment of tasks set forth herein. Duties include: Providing both present and projected status information to prescribed managerial personnel. Noting projected completion date, studying actual aircraft status, and informing higher levels within the chain of command when aircraft is to be mission ready. Determining the status of aircraft through use of radio, telephone, intercom, e-mail, personal contact with production supervisors, technicians, review of work documents, and statistical listings. Accomplishing aircraft debriefing to ensure malfunctions identified by aircrews are properly reported and documented. Conducting training and skill level progression of Air Force Reservists. Requirements include: Specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-07, or equivalent in other pay systems. Masters or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree. Combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. Knowledge, skills, and abilities include: Ability to plan, schedule, and take corrective action to meet emergency and regular work load requirements. Knowledge of assigned equipment and ability to interpret military aircraft and manufacturing terminology. Knowledge of maintenance organizational structures and skill in the distribution of personnel to obtain a balance of work. Knowledge of aerospace systems, subsystems, components, and associated inspections, repair, modification, and supply processes. Skill in effective written and oral communication. Knowledge of total quality management methodology, tools, and techniques. Knowledge of and skill in the use of automated maintenance information systems (MIS) and aircraft maintenance documentation processes. Other significant facts include: Performs other related duties as assigned. This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. The incumbent is required to meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements. The incumbent may be assigned some non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities. May be required to fly in commercial and military aircraft to perform temporary/permanent duty assignments. This is a drug testing designated position.
