Overview
Geotechnical Engineer role at AECOM, based in Orange, California. This position is part of the Water Business Line and involves working on challenging projects including dams, levees, pipelines, bridges, tunnels, building structures, and other facilities, in collaboration with a wide range of disciplines. The position is expected to begin in June or July 2025. Responsibilities Geotechnical Staff Engineer will support projects involving field investigation, soil sample collection, geotechnical analysis and design of foundations for structures such as bridges, dams, pipelines, treatment plants, etc. Interpret and record data, conduct analyses, and compare findings to relevant studies and local, state and federal regulations to ensure compliance. Work closely with senior engineers and project managers to receive guidance on all aspects of the geotechnical engineering work. Knowledge in installation and/or functioning of geotechnical investigation and analysis is a plus. Analyze data using spreadsheets and geotechnical software to assist in the preparation of geotechnical reports. Build analytical and design skills and conduct engineering design under supervision of an experienced engineer. Create designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings, and final working drawings under supervision. Collect and analyze data under supervision of an experienced engineer. Use computer software as a tool for solving basic engineering problems. Perform work in accordance with agreed-upon budget and schedule under supervision.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements: BA/BS in Civil Engineering or a related discipline plus equivalency of experience and/or education. Valid U.S. Drivers License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices. U.S. Citizenship is required due to the nature of the work. Frequent lifting of testing equipment and soil samples up to 20 lbs unassisted.
Preferred Qualifications: Masters Degree in Civil Engineering with Geotechnical focus. Experience with software such as Excel, Word, gINT, AutoCAD. EIT or FE license is preferred. Ability to work well in a team-oriented environment with strong initiative and communication skills.
