Mechanical Design Engineer - Automotive Interiors & Exteriors
Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced
Mechanical Design Engineer
to join our automotive design team in Michigan. This role focuses on the design and development of both
interior and exterior mechanical systems
with particular emphasis on
door trim packaging ,
tail lamp integration , and
electrical distribution system layout . The ideal candidate will be proficient in
CATIA V6/3DX , possess solid
mechanism and structural design
skills, and have a collaborative approach to working with cross-functional teams.
Key Responsibilities: Design and develop automotive interior and exterior mechanical components including: Interior hard trims Door trims and packaging Tail lamp housings and packaging Exterior body modules
Create and modify detailed 3D models and 2D drawings using
CATIA V6/3DX . Ensure designs meet OEM specifications, functional performance, manufacturability, and aesthetic standards. Integrate
electrical distribution systems
into mechanical layouts and ensure alignment with engineering and packaging requirements. Conduct basic structural and mechanism design analyses to ensure robustness and integrity. Participate in design reviews, implement engineering change requests (ECRs), and support DFMEA/DRBFM activities. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including electrical, styling, manufacturing, and product validation. Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field. Minimum
5 years
of experience in automotive mechanical design. Expert proficiency in
CATIA V6/3DX
and familiarity with
PLM systems
(e.g., 3DEXPERIENCE, ENOVIA). Strong experience with: Structural & mechanism design utomotive
interior and exterior trim packaging Tail lamp
and
electrical distribution
system integration
Knowledge of GD&T, DVP&R, and DFMEA processes. Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple design iterations. Strong communication and team collaboration skills. Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with major OEMs or Tier 1 automotive suppliers. Familiarity with
door trim packaging trace
and
electrical architecture layout
