General responsibilities
* Perform routine maintenance and inspections on heavy equipment, including forklifts, loaders, and other rolling stock.
* Conduct diagnostic tests to identify mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical problems.
* Repair, rebuild, and replace worn or malfunctioning parts, such as engines, transmissions, brakes, and electrical systems.
* Troubleshoot and repair complex hydraulic and electrical issues.
* Service engine and fuel systems, including modern computerized and electronic control systems.
* Perform emergency repairs in the field to minimize equipment downtime.
* Keep detailed records of all maintenance and repair work performed.
Required skills and qualifications
* Experience: Proven experience in diesel engines and hydraulic systems is essential. Experience with heavy rolling stock and forklifts is required.
* Education/Training: A high school diploma or GED is the minimum requirement. Technical or vocational training in diesel mechanics or heavy equipment repair is often preferred, but not required.
* Mechanical Aptitude: A strong understanding of heavy equipment, engine components, and mechanical systems is necessary.
* Diagnostic Skills: Ability to use computerized diagnostic tools to accurately identify complex mechanical problems.
* Problem-Solving: The ability to think critically and find effective solutions under pressure.
* Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interpret work orders and maintain clear records.
