Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain applications using NetCobol or MicroFocus COBOLSQL.

Write efficient, optimized COBOL programs integrated with Sybase database backends.

Develop and maintain stored procedures, triggers, and SQL queries in Sybase.

Perform system integration, troubleshooting, and debugging across application and database layers.

Work with Unix/Linux environments for script development, deployment, and process automation.

Collaborate with business analysts, QA, and operations teams to gather requirements and deliver quality solutions.

Perform code reviews, unit testing, and debugging for performance and reliability.

Support production systems, including incident management, defect resolution, and performance tuning.

Contribute to migration, modernization, and optimization projects where legacy COBOL applications are integrated with modern platforms.

Ensure compliance with coding standards, security policies, and regulatory requirements.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).

5-10 years of development experience with COBOL applications.

Hands-on expertise with NetCobol or MicroFocus COBOLSQL.

Strong working knowledge of Sybase (preferred) or other relational databases (Oracle, DB2, SQL Server).

Experience with Unix/Linux scripting (Shell, Perl, or Python) for automation and integration.

Strong understanding of software development life cycle (SDLC), Agile, or Waterfall methodologies.

Proficiency in performance tuning and debugging COBOL-SQL applications.

Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills

Experience in financial services, banking, or insurance domains.

Familiarity with batch processing, job scheduling tools (Control-M, Autosys, or Cron).

Exposure to migration projects (e.g., moving from mainframe COBOL to distributed COBOL environments).

Knowledge of data modeling and ETL concepts.

Experience with version control tools (Git, SVN) and CI/CD pipelines.
