Overview

This role focuses on system-wide cost savings analytics and reporting, utilizing internal costing tools and data platforms to validate and automate projects within the Cost Stewardship team. It is a highly visible position that interacts with various teams, offering unique experience in Health System Optimization and Continuous Improvement initiatives.

This position helps develop and deploy world class financial data analytics at Intermountain Health, one of the nation’s leading health systems. The Staff level Finance Data Analyst is a member of the Finance Decision Support team comprised of technical professionals contributing to the achievement of Intermountain’s strategic initiatives, clinical excellence, and operational targets through data-driven insights, with a finance focus. Analyst caregivers report to finance analytic leaders while partnering with key business and clinical leaders across all areas of Intermountain Health.

Responsibilities

  • Works within a team to understand customer data and information needs, and provides finance support through data exploration, interpretation, statistical analysis, report development and visual storytelling.
  • Performs specifically defined tasks related to several routine and non-routine / moderately complex functions (e.g., cost accounting, pricing, productivity, benchmarking, system-defined finance KPI performance, service line reporting). Accountable for timely and accurate completion of assigned tasks.
  • Coordinates the preparation and review of financial analysis, variance reports, and ad hoc reports. Works with internal customers to develop and prepare quantitative reports using data sources to analyze financial and operational issues.
  • With limited supervision, queries, organizes, and analyzes data from multiple sources to produce financial insights and inform decision making in partnership with finance and operations partners
  • Coordinates the creation of visually appealing, content rich and consumer centric reports and dashboards (i.e., Tableau, Cognos) that provide ongoing financial reporting for strategic financial KPIs and measures.
  • May perform intermediate-level finance system management and configuration, process design, and/or implementation of new queries or data assets to further finance strategies and priorities.
  • Works within a team to understand customer data and information needs, and provides finance support through data exploration, interpretation, statistical analysis, report development and visual storytelling.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor\'s degree in analytics related fields such as statistics, mathematics, information systems, computer science, finance, business management, or economics with two years of relevant work experience in a role performing data analysis.

Or Bachelor’s degree in another area of study with four years of relevant work experience in a role performing data analysis.

Experience without a related degree will be considered if skill set and experience are robust.

And

  • Intermediate knowledge of SQL (including Databricks) and understanding of database design
  • Experience creating reports and dashboards with data visualization tools (Cognos, Tableau, Power BI)
  • Proficiency in using office applications (Word, Power Point, Excel) and internet
  • Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to acquire subject matter expertise in health care or related data (Clinical Programs, Clinical Services, Compliance, Quality, Revenue Cycle, Strategic Planning, Finance, Human Resources, Supply Chain, Population Health, etc.).
  • Lifelong learner with a creative, collaborative approach.
  • Temperament to succeed in both an individual and team-based analytic support model

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor\'s degree in analytics related fields such as statistics, mathematics, information systems, computer science, finance, business management, or economics.

Physical Requirements

  • Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, documents, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and be able to assess customer needs.
  • Frequent interactions with providers, colleagues, customers, patients/clients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, needs, and issues quickly and accurately.
  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use for typing, accessing needed information, etc.
  • For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.

$41.22 - $64.92
