Facility Custodian Team Lead

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Facility Custodian Team Lead supports and monitors the work of custodial personnel and plays a key role in ensuring facilities remain clean, safe, and compliant with GRTC standards. This position includes responsibility for training, supply oversight, and the direct execution of custodial tasks across facilities. The Lead Custodian will operate on a swing shift schedule, with flexibility required during special events or seasonal operations. Responsibilities include: Assigning and overseeing daily Facility Custodian Team Lead work to ensure quality and consistency. Training and evaluating custodial staff to uphold GRTC's standards for cleanliness and safety. Monitoring compliance with safety procedures, regulatory requirements, and internal policies. Coordinating larger custodial projects including floor stripping/waxing, carpet and window cleaning. Performing general janitorial duties such as vacuuming, mopping, trash removal, light bulb replacement, and restroom sanitation. Managing and maintaining supply inventories, issuing products, and placing orders. Troubleshooting and arranging maintenance for custodial equipment. Responding to work requests, customer concerns, and emergency custodial needs, including after-hours response when required. Preparing and maintaining accurate documentation and reports. Qualifications
Experience: At least two years of janitorial experience is required, with at least one year in a lead capacity preferred. Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent required. License: A valid Driver's License is required. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Essential to Job Function. Proficient in the use of custodial tools, equipment, cleaning compounds, solvents, and chemicals. Skilled in prioritizing work orders and managing projects independently. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing. Strong attention to detail and ability to work with minimal supervision. Knowledge of custodial safety standards, OSHA regulations, and APPA Level 2 and 3 expectations. Ability to foster teamwork, provide constructive feedback, and resolve workplace issues. Familiarity with maintaining documentation and compliance with applicable health and safety codes. Supervisory Responsibilities
Provides functional direction to a team of custodial staff. Assigns tasks, monitors daily performance, and conducts evaluations. Coaches staff and ensures custodial duties align with organizational priorities. Collaborates with Facilities management to address staffing needs and performance issues. Assists in hiring, training, and mentoring new custodians. Working Conditions & Physical Demands
Must support a 24/7 operation, including evenings, weekends, early mornings, and on-call availability during emergencies. Work is performed in both in the facility and around the exterior of the buildings, including bus lots and transit control centers. Must be able to lift up to 75lbs, bend, kneel, reach, and stand for extended periods. Reasonable accommodation can be made to support individuals with disabilities.
