Description
General Description: Operates a commercial motor vehicle to pick up and deliver products donated to GCFD within the Chicagoland area. Provide highest level of customer service to donors and member agencies.
Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
- Operate a commercial motor vehicle to pick up and deliver products donated to the Greater Chicago Food Depository efficiently, timely, and safely.
- Prepare and maintain accurate records of all pickup and delivery transactions, reporting discrepancies to the Dispatcher.
- Evaluate the suitability of donated products for distribution, communicate donation volume, quality, route changes, and waiting times to the dispatcher.
- Maintain cleanliness of vehicles; complete pre-trip and post-trip safety checklists daily; report issues immediately.
- Maintain and account for all GCFD equipment such as phones, load bars, blankets, jacks, etc.
- Oversee truck helper on route.
- Replace improperly cared for GCFD equipment.
- Load and off-load freight manually and with pallet jacks and forklifts.
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
CDL - A
- Minimum two years of city driving experience with tractor-trailers, preferably in Chicagoland.
- Valid Illinois Class A CDL with clean driving record.
- Ability to drive manual and automatic trucks up to 80,000 lbs.
- Standing for extended periods.
CDL - B
- 1-2 years of city driving with Class B vehicles, preferably in Chicagoland.
- Valid Illinois Class B CDL with air-brake endorsement and clean record.
- Operate trucks up to 36,000 lbs.
- Ability to operate material handling equipment.
- Airbrake endorsement required.
Additional Requirements:
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to obtain Food Handling and Sanitation Certificate.
- Basic math skills.
- Lifting at least 50 lbs.
- Periodic drug screening.
- Climbing and moving in and out of vehicles and equipment easily.
