JOB SUMMARY:

The Director of Data Governance and Architecture is a senior leadership role responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing the organization’s data governance framework. This role ensures that data across the enterprise is accurate, available, secure, and used responsibly, supporting business strategy, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence. The Director will collaborate extensively with business units, IT, compliance, and executive leadership to create and sustain policies, standards, and processes that maximize the value of data as a strategic asset. This individual will also be responsible for developing and overseeing strategic data architecture for the organization. This role bridges business objectives with technology, ensuring that enterprise data assets are efficiently leveraged to drive business value, innovation, regulatory compliance, and competitive advantage. The director plays a critical role in shaping the organization’s data governance, data integration, information management, and analytics capabilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Data Governance Strategy: Develop, communicate, and execute a comprehensive data governance strategy that aligns with organizational objectives and industry best practices. Policy and Standards Development: Establish and maintain data governance policies, standards, and frameworks, ensuring consistency in data management, accessibility, and quality across all business units. Data Quality Management: Drive initiatives to monitor, measure, and improve data quality; establish protocols for data validation, cleansing, and remediation. Compliance & Risk Management: Ensure compliance with data-related regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, CCPA), industry standards, and internal policies. Lead risk assessments and mitigation activities related to data governance. Metadata and Master Data Management: Oversee the development and maintenance of metadata repositories, data catalogs, and master data management solutions. Data Stewardship Program: Design and oversee a data stewardship program, empowering business and technical stakeholders to take responsibility for data assets. Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement: Foster a cross-functional culture of data stewardship, collaborating with executives, business units, legal, IT, and analytics teams. Education & Change Management: Lead training and change management efforts to build organizational awareness and adoption of best data governance practices. Technology Enablement: Evaluate, recommend, and implement data governance technologies and tools that support business objectives and regulatory requirements. Reporting & Analytics: Develop and present metrics, dashboards, and reports to monitor the effectiveness of data governance programs and communicate business value. Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process enhancements, automation, and adoption of new data governance methodologies. Architecture & Design: Lead the design and implementation of scalable, secure, and high-performing enterprise data platforms, including data lakes, data warehouses, and cloud-based solutions. Innovation & Emerging Technologies: Evaluate and introduce emerging data technologies, such as AI, machine learning, and advanced analytics, to maximize value from enterprise data assets. Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as a trusted advisor to business units, collaborating with executives, analysts, and technical teams to understand data needs and deliver solutions. Team Leadership: Build, mentor, and lead a team of data architects and data governance analysts, fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and continuous learning. Standards & Best Practices: Develop, promote, and maintain data architecture standards, frameworks, and reference models to ensure consistency and scalability across the enterprise. Vendor Management: Evaluate, select, and manage external vendors, ensuring solutions align with architectural vision and business needs. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in information management, Computer Science, Business Administration, or related field required. Minimum 8+ years in data governance, data management, or related discipline, with at least 3 years in a leadership capacity. Proven track record of designing and implementing enterprise data governance programs. Experience with regulatory compliance frameworks (GDPR, HIPAA, CCPA, etc.). Strong background in data architecture, data modeling, data quality, and master data management. Familiarity with data governance platforms, metadata management, and data catalog tools Proficiency in data analytics, business intelligence, and reporting tools.

Knowledge of cloud platforms, data lakes, and big data ecosystems is a plus. Exceptional leadership, team building, and stakeholder management skills. Ability to communicate complex concepts to diverse audiences, including executives, technical teams, and business users. Proven track record of driving organizational change and fostering a culture of data accountability. Strong problem-solving abilities; adept at root cause analysis and strategic planning.
