Bookkeeper & Administrative Lead (Part-Time)
Location: Jewish Life Center, Raleigh, NC
Schedule: In-person | Avg. 30 hours/week
Reports to: Senior Rabbi, Rabbi Mendy Wilschanski
About the Jewish Life Center
The Jewish Life Center (JLC) is dedicated to serving the Jewish community across the greater Raleigh area. Through a broad array of programs — including Congregation Sha’arei Israel, Chabad Hebrew School, Camp Gan Israel, Women’s Circle, and Men’s Club — we foster Jewish education, identity, and community across all age groups.
While we are a Jewish organization, affiliation with the JLC or any specific faith is not required to apply.
Position Overview
We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Bookkeeper & Administrative Lead to manage both financial and administrative tasks to ensure the effective day-to-day operation of the Center. This dual-role position is vital to maintaining our financial integrity, communications, and office functionality.
Key Responsibilities
Bookkeeping Duties
Maintain accurate financial records in QuickBooks and CRM systems
Reconcile transactions including income, expenses, and bank statements
Prepare invoices, expense reports, and financial presentations
Manage accounts payable/receivable and payroll processing
Track budgets and assist with financial reporting
Support internal/external accountants and auditors
Receive and record donations; issue timely charitable receipts
Maintain organized financial records (physical and digital)
File required government documentation (e.g., taxes, state returns)
Conduct monthly/quarterly audits of general ledger balances
Maintain and update household and address records
Administrative Duties
Greet visitors, answer phones, and manage email communications
Schedule building inspections and campus security needs
Maintain office inventory, supplies, and equipment
Coordinate with vendors and service providers
Support specialty projects
Create and manage digital and print communications (newsletters, event invites)
Perform basic graphic editing and web updates (event pages, homepage)
Maintain and sync office calendars, event schedules, and room reservations
Update membership and donor data
Execute mailings (bulk mailers, thank-you letters, etc.)
Other duties as assigned by leadership
Qualifications
Proven experience with bookkeeping, including accounting software (QuickBooks preferred)
Strong organizational, clerical, and communication skills
High attention to detail and time management
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace
Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Comfortable adapting to new technologies and systems
Service-oriented mindset and a proactive approach
Willingness to learn and take initiative
Compensation & Benefits
Hourly Rate: $17.00-$24.00 per hour
