Delivers PVC pipe and related products with a Commercial Motor Vehicle. Assures that the load is safe and that the product is delivered to the customer in a timely manner. Delivers excellent customer service and assists in the Shipping department as needed. May load and unload trucks and perform other shipping/receiving duties.
Responsibilities
- Ability to safely drive a Commercial Motor Vehicle tractor-trailer combination, applying knowledge of commercial driving regulations, to transport and deliver products or materials
- Perform and document pre/post trip inspections and Services truck with oil, fuel, radiator fluid etc. to maintain tractor-trailer. Report any mechanical problems encountered with vehicles.
- Reads bill of lading to determine assignment. Loads or unloads, or assists in loading and unloading truck.
- Verify the contents of inventory loads against shipping papers. Inventories and inspects goods to be moved.
- Fastens straps, chain or binders to secure load on trailer during transit.
- Maneuvers truck into loading or unloading position, following signals from loading crew as needed.
- Drive trucks to weigh station before and after loading, and along route to document weight and conform to state regulations.
- Maintains vehicle and driver log.
- Comply with Federal and State Motor Carrier Safety Regulations. Obey traffic laws, and follow established traffic and transportation procedures.
- Read maps, and follow written and verbal geographic directions.
- Obtains customer's signature for deliveries and pick-up
- Reports delays, accidents, or other traffic and transportation situations to bases or other vehicles, using telephones or mobile two-way radios.
- Works as a team member to support plant Shipping/Receiving tasks such as unloading products from trailers, helping to maintain inventory control and organization.
- Maintains good housekeeping program at all times.
- Driver advocates and uses safe working practices, follows and promotes company safety rules and policies and reports hazardous conditions at all times.
- Has thorough knowledge of all operations and equipment as well as the various types and sizes of plastic pipe products.
- Safely operates forklifts to move pipe and materials to and from the production areas, pad, scales and warehouse, and to load and unload trucks with understanding of load construction, including multi-stop loads.
- Uses hand tools, such as hammers, banders, load tie down bars to secure, assemble or affix loads or items necessary for safe shipment of products.
- Performs daily checks on forklifts to assure that they are in safe working order.
- Attends required training sessions and wears the required safety equipment such as hearing protection, safety glasses, and other safety equipment that might be required for certain jobs or tasks.

Qualifications

Must be qualified to drive a Commercial Motor Vehicle (more than 10,000 GVWR) under Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations 391.41, and meet all required D.O.T. regulations to drive a Commercial Motor Vehicle.
Must be a minimum of 21 years old to drive commercial vehicles interstate.
Must possess only one commercial driver’s license.
Education And/or Experience
Must possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License; High school diploma or G.E.D or equivalent.
External Candidates: 1+ year experience in commercial driving operations. Experience driving Tractor/trailer combinations including flatbed trailers and double trailers preferred. Know how to properly and safely load, block, brace and secure cargo.
Internal Candidates: – JM Eagle Employees in good standing, and with 3 or more years of experience in JM Operations, such as shipping/receiving, production etc., and have obtained a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License.
Computer Skills
Must be able to work with basic computer skills, keyboards and electronic devices such as Electronic Logging Devices and cell phones.
Language Skills
Ability to speak and read passable English (FMCSR 392.11(b)(z)) – converse with general public, understand traffic signs & signals, respond to official questions, be able to make legible entries on reports and records, read and interpret documents such as safety rules, maps, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rates, ratios and percentages. Ability to calculate route miles and hours of service.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in changing situations. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

- Must be in good health and able to perform all duties of a commercial driver
- Must pass pre-employment and random D.O.T. drug and alcohol tests.
- Must maintain a valid D.O.T. medical card.

The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus. Ability to verbally communicate either face to face or via telephone with other fellow employees to accomplish all assigned job functions. Hear and understand all verbal communication whether it be face to face or via telephone. See and understand all written communication.
