Location: Remote preferably within Driving distance to Charlotte, NC or Indianapolis

Theoris Services is assisting our client in their search for a forward-thinking Data Modernization Analyst to join an internal-facing team modernizing enterprise reporting and analytics. This role will replace a retiring team member and work alongside an experienced Excel/SQL analyst to transition legacy SSRS and Excel-based reporting into a modern, scalable data ecosystem using tools like Power BI, Python, Azure Synapse, and Microsoft Fabric. You’ll be part of a collaborative effort to help establish governance, eliminate duplicate reports, and prepare clean, well-structured data for future AI and predictive analytics initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand reporting needs and modernize legacy solutions.
  • Build and maintain Power BI dashboards with strong visual storytelling and usability.
  • Work with SQL and Python to prepare, analyze, and transform data for reporting and modeling.
  • Leverage Azure Synapse and Microsoft Fabric for data integration, warehousing, and governance.
  • Participate in the formation of an internal user group and contribute to best practices and data policies.
  • Support the evaluation and transition of reports during the rollout of a new claims platform.
  • Explore opportunities to prepare data for AI and machine learning use cases (optional but encouraged).
  • Shadow and collaborate with an internal Excel/SQL expert to ensure knowledge transfer and team growth.
  • Demonstrate a strong culture of collaboration, learning, and modernization.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be a US Citizen or Green Card Holder
  • Must live within driving distance to Indianapolis, IN or Fort Mill, SC
  • 2–3 years of experience in data analytics, BI development, or data engineering
  • Strong proficiency in Power BI (preferred) or Tableau – ability to walk through past work in interviews
  • Solid understanding of SQL and data modeling concepts
  • Experience with Python for data analysis or transformation
  • Exposure to Azure Synapse, Fabric, or similar modern data platforms
  • Familiarity with data governance, reporting consolidation, and internal stakeholder collaboration
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric integrations, notebooks, or governance features
  • Exposure to AI/ML, predictive analytics, or R in a reporting context
  • Understanding of how to prepare data for AI modeling or contextual protocols
  • Experience working in a collaborative, non-hierarchical team environment
