Position Summary/ Department Summary:
The Medical-Surgical Intensive Care Unit at Boston Children’s Hospital seeks qualified Physician Assistants or Nurse Practitioners to join our multidisciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing care to infants, children, and adults with critical illness.
  • Collaborating with supervising physicians to conduct patient assessments and medical history, physical exams, and diagnose health and developmental problems.
  • Caring for patients with both acute and chronic disease by managing therapeutic regimens according to approved guidelines.
  • Participating in intensive care unit medical rounds, including the presentation of clinical information and the progress and management of patients.
  • Assisting with establishing a treatment plan and being included in all teaching activities conducted by the MSICU attending staff.
  • Participating in ongoing research in the MSICU and offering expertise as a consultant and educator to other staff.
  • Ability to work full time, 40 hours/week, day/night rotation with every 3rd weekend, 12-hour shifts. Opportunities also available for permanent nights with every 4th weekend rotation.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
  • Master of Science in Nursing or Master’s in Physician Assistant Studies
Experience:
  • 1 year of critical care experience preferred.
  • Will consider new graduates with previous ICU experience.
  • Solid medical knowledge base for critical care medicine.
  • Critical thinking skills and adaptability.
  • Excellent communication skills and work collaboratively with medical and surgical colleagues, staff and trainees.
Licensure/ Certifications:
  • A current Massachusetts NP or PA license required

Our MSICU cares for medical and surgical patients ranging for newborn to early adults. The patient population is diverse with a variety of medical and surgical needs. Our newborn population is primarily patients with congenital diaphragmatic hernia or need for extra corporal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) soon after birth. The children and early adults have a variety of diagnoses including but not limited to acute respiratory distress syndrome, multiple trauma, septic shock, congenital malformations, and liver, lung and kidney transplantation.
