MECHANIC – City of Forest Park
Public Works Dept. • Full Time • Deadline: Until Filled
This position involves working in the City of Forest Park’s Fleet Department. Performs general mechanical repair work on emergency vehicles, such as fire trucks, aerial platforms, rescue and police vehicles, trucks, light equipment, heavy machinery, gasoline/diesel engines, generators, or other automotive/mechanical equipment.
Responsibilities include:
- Examine vehicles to determine necessary repair or maintenance work; conduct diagnostic computer testing; consult with drivers or equipment operators to obtain input on problems, assist in diagnosing problems, or prevent future problems; assess body damage to vehicles; determine parts and supplies necessary to conduct repairs.
- Perform repair, removal, replacement, rebuilding, or maintenance work on vehicle/equipment systems and components: brakes, brake pads, wheels, steering components, shocks, transmissions, cylinder heads, differentials, suspension springs, starters, alternators, water pumps, thermostats, radiators, flywheels, fuel injectors, or other components; remove or replace engines and engine parts; check engine timing and performance; service rotors/drums; replace rings, bearings, and universal joints; repair/rebuild carburetors and generators; adjust, repair, or relines brakes; inspect, clean, and paint wheels/rims; perform front-end alignments; replace fuel pumps/injection pumps; repair emergency generators; repair air conditioning systems and recover refrigerant; install, remove, repair or replace doors, lifts, seats, radios, lights, windows, mirrors, or emergency sirens; repair aerial ladder systems, pumps, cameras, recording systems, and customized electrical systems on fire/police emergency vehicles/equipment; install decals and logos on vehicles as appropriate.
- Operate a variety of machinery, equipment, and tools associated with repairing, maintaining, and testing vehicles and equipment; coordinate warranty work and outsourced repair/maintenance work with local dealers, garages, or other service providers.
Qualifications:
- Experience or training in automotive repair and maintenance; ability to diagnose and repair a range of vehicle systems; demonstrated mechanical aptitude and ability to read technical manuals and diagnostic reports.
