Overview

The Chief Digital Information Officer (CDIO) of Adena Health (AH) will provide strategic leadership for the organization’s information technology vision, strategy, and infrastructure. Serving as the organization’s foremost authority on technology adoption and innovation, the CDIO will guide decisions that enhance clinical outcomes, elevate patient experience, and improve operational efficiency. This role oversees the development, implementation, and governance of policies and procedures for information technology, information security, and the management of clinical, financial, and other organizational data. The CDIO will lead the design, deployment, and optimization of information systems across the enterprise, with direct responsibility for Information Systems Applications, Infrastructure and Security, and Clinical Engineering. As a member of the Operating Committee, the CDIO will exercise appropriate fiduciary responsibility while upholding the Mission, Vision, and Values of Adena Health, maintaining the highest standards of personal and professional integrity.

Responsibilities

Strategic and Operational Leadership – Directs, coordinates, and guides the strategic and operational planning of Information Technology and other assigned departments. Ensures all initiatives align with AH’s mission, vision, and long-term business objectives, while fostering a culture of innovation, service excellence, and continuous improvement. Oversees, manages, and authorizes all information technology contracts and purchases in alignment with AH policies; works closely with the Senior Vice President & CFO and the Senior Vice President, General Counsel & CCO on contract-related matters. Policy and Infrastructure Oversight – Develops, implements, and enforces enterprise-wide policies and procedures for IS infrastructure, encompassing network architecture, storage solutions, server environments, cloud services, and helpdesk operations. Ensures infrastructure is secure, scalable, reliable, and positioned to support future growth. Project Management and Systems Integration – Leads the end-to-end project management process for strategic technology initiatives, including needs assessment, vendor selection, contract negotiation, design, deployment, and system integration. Establishes metrics and accountability to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet performance expectations. Cybersecurity and Disaster Recovery – Oversees the implementation and continuous improvement of IS security strategies to safeguard organizational data and systems. Directs the development, testing, and refinement of the disaster recovery and business continuity plans to ensure resilience in the face of potential disruptions. Cross-Functional Partnership – Serves as a trusted advisor and internal consultant to Department Directors and Senior Leadership on technology-related strategy, investments, and lifecycle decisions. Collaborates with the CMO and CMIO to advance provider clinical system initiatives, and partners with the CNO to optimize nursing clinical systems for quality, safety, and efficiency. Technology Vision and Innovation – Provides forward-thinking leadership for the organization’s technology direction, staying ahead of industry trends and emerging tools. Assesses opportunities to leverage innovative technologies—including artificial intelligence, data analytics, and automation—while carefully evaluating risks, compliance considerations, and organizational readiness. Operational Excellence and Accountability – Establishes and monitors performance benchmarks for all technology operations. Ensures fiscal responsibility through effective budget management, resource allocation, and return-on-investment analysis. Organizational Representation – Represents the organization in technology-related collaborations, partnerships, and industry forums. Builds strategic relationships with vendors.

Education and Experience

Minimum of 5 years in a director-level leadership position within Information Systems, Information Management, or serving as a Chief Information Officer (CIO) in a healthcare environment, with demonstrated success in strategic planning, technology governance, and leading cross-functional teams to deliver enterprise-wide IT initiatives that enhance operational efficiency, clinical outcomes, and data security Master’s degree in business, Finance, or a closely related field Preferred professional credentials include CPHIMS (Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems), CHCIO (Certified Healthcare Chief Information Officer), Fellow of HIMSS (Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society), and Fellow of CHIME (College of Healthcare Information Management Executives).

Demonstrated success in fostering positive relationships with clinicians and partnering with fellow leadership team members to achieve impactful organizational outcomes. Comprehensive knowledge of vendor management, including cultivating strong relationships, and developing and administering contracts. Proven ability to coordinate and align multiple teams with competing priorities toward shared goals. Political acumen and advocacy skills to navigate the opportunities and challenges of an independent health system, positioning AH as a respected state-wide voice and cultivating strategic partnerships across Ohio. Deep understanding of the healthcare industry’s broad requirements, including regulatory compliance, board governance, and financial stewardship. Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to strengthen connections at all levels of the organization and with external stakeholders, including medical staff, providers, nurses, and other patient care professionals. Agility in adapting to the evolving healthcare market, with forward-thinking insight into the future implications of these changes on AH’s success, including addressing complex healthcare technology challenges.
