Data Engineer
on behalf of our client, a rapidly growing and innovative organization driving data solutions that connect education and employment. This is a
full-time, hybrid opportunity
based in either
Washington, DC
or
Indianapolis, IN
for a seasoned engineer to lead the development and optimization of cloud-based data infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). The role will be instrumental in building scalable, secure data solutions to support advanced analytics and research on workforce development, higher education, and labor market data.
Responsibilities
Designing, managing, and optimizing a Google Cloud-based data warehouse and storage environment (BigQuery, Cloud Storage)
Developing and orchestrating scalable ETL/ELT pipelines for ingestion, transformation, and integration of large datasets using tools such as Cloud Run and Dataflow
Establishing and maintaining data quality, security, and governance compliance across workflows
Partnering with research teams and external agencies to integrate third-party data sources, APIs, and data marketplaces into the platform
Optimizing query performance, partitioning, and cost efficiency strategies for BigQuery
Monitoring and troubleshooting data systems, ensuring high availability and responsiveness
Automating workflows with Infrastructure-as-Code and CI/CD tools (Terraform, Cloud Build, GitHub Actions, Jenkins)
Providing technical support to analytics and research teams, enabling self-service access to clean, reliable data
Supporting business intelligence dashboards (Tableau, Power BI) and analytics applications by provisioning and structuring data models
Leading technical best practices in data warehousing and governance while fostering an inclusive and collaborative team environment
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or related field (Master’s a plus)
5+ years of experience managing and operating cloud-based data platforms in enterprise environments (GCP preferred; Snowflake, Redshift, or Databricks experience also valued)
Strong SQL proficiency and Python experience for automation and large-scale data processing
Proven experience building ETL/ELT pipelines and integrating third-party data sources via APIs or data marketplaces
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure-as-Code, and collaborative development using Git
Demonstrated expertise in data governance, security, and compliance frameworks (FERPA, CCPA, SOC 2, ISO 27001)
Experience with business intelligence tools such as Tableau or Power BI and knowledge of dashboard/data app enablement
Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills in data-centric environments, with strong communication skills for working with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Current Google Cloud Professional Data Engineer and/or Cloud Architect certification strongly desired
Benefits
Competitive salary range: $115,000 – $140,000 base + annual bonus
Hybrid work flexibility (Washington, DC or Indianapolis, IN) 2 days a week onsite
