Advisory Director (Strategy & Growth)
is the overall project lead across high-complexity, multi-workstream engagements and oversees managers of individual workstreams. The Director owns, coordinates, and harmonizes the overall approach and serves as the principal day-to-day contact with the client, establishing an optimal communication cadence with C-Suite executives. The Director ensures workstream managers are coordinated and output is consistent and aligned. The Director focuses on engagement economics and directs the team to follow practices that ensure quality and profitability.

Primary Responsibilities
Overall project lead across high-complexity, multi-workstream engagements, diagnosing client issues (including underlying issues) and determining appropriate solutions to support strategic direction
Build consensus among senior client stakeholders critical to successful implementation of identified solutions
Oversee managers and team members of individual workstreams to own, coordinate, and harmonize the overall approach
Act as an industry expert in one or more areas and use engagements to advance knowledge (e.g., enterprise strategy, value-based care, population health, consumer, digital, revenue diversification, partnerships)
Serve as principal day-to-day contact for client executives and establish communication cadence with C-Suite executives
Develop project team members and direct reports to expand their skills
Accountable for budget and timelines across all workstreams
Focus on project economics and direct the team to ensure quality and profitability, including monitoring actual vs. expected team utilization
Apply deductive and inductive thinking effectively
Provide subject matter expertise to other Optum Advisory Services and Optum/UnitedHealth Group units as it relates to strategy development
Support other Optum Advisory Services and Optum/UnitedHealth Group units when strategy expertise is required to address client issues
Communicate effectively in writing and verbally with prospects, clients, and staff
Demonstrate solid relationship management skills and the ability to handle challenging interpersonal situations
Contribute to business development efforts, including add-on and new business

Required Qualifications
5+ years of client/customer-facing experience at a consulting firm (Big 3/Big 4/Big 6/Boutique)
5+ years of experience in strategy consulting
Proven leadership experience in healthcare business models (payer/provider) in one of: Strategy & Transformation; Consumer strategy & Emerging Solutions; Value Based Care/Population Health Management
Experience with project management, developing and presenting deliverables to C-suite executives, and analytics
Experience leading strategy work and/or strategic initiatives
Client relationship management experience
Proven business development experience with at least $1.5M+ in new sales annually
Proficiency in MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
Familiarity with a variety of problem-solving approaches
Ability to drill down to root causes and be creative in problem solving
Ability to travel domestically up to 50%
Preferred Qualifications
5+ years of professional experience, preferably in healthcare
Experience in healthcare consulting
Experience managing projects that meet budget and timeline goals
Experience navigating a matrixed environment
Experience mentoring junior staff and leading direct reports
Analytical reasoning and solution-focused problem solving
Ability to lead and motivate cross-functional teams
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Proven written and verbal communication skills

Compensation and Benefits The salary range for this role is $124,500 to $239,400 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group provides a comprehensive benefits package, incentive programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution, and other benefits subject to eligibility requirements. Benefits and incentives vary by location and role.
