Privacy Director – AN/EPD/RMDx/CDx at Abbott. Abbott is a global healthcare leader whose portfolio spans diagnostics, medical devices, nutritionals and branded generic medicines. The role is based in Abbott Park, IL and supports Abbott’s Nutrition, Established Pharmaceuticals and Diagnostics divisions. The Opportunity
The successful candidate should have a proven track record in collaboratively and pragmatically directing privacy and data protection strategies, needs and issues for a multinational company. The role requires presenting to senior executives, working with cross‑functional teams, engaging with regulators, and providing risk‑based guidance with imperfect information. Build strong relationships with business unit leaders and partner with Abbott’s global Legal and IT organizations. Work with privacy and compliance stakeholders worldwide. What You’ll Work On
Building and maintaining a deep business understanding. Leading and managing a diverse team of privacy and compliance professionals. Informing and advising Abbott businesses and employees of their obligations to ethically collect and protect personal data and to comply with Abbott policies and global/local privacy regulations. Advising stakeholders on go‑to‑market privacy strategies for new products or services. Informing and advising on data privacy, data protection, and cybersecurity laws and regulations. Leading compliance monitoring, including managing internal data protection activities, providing training, and conducting internal monitoring. Advising on privacy impact and risk assessments. Working with supervisory authorities on issues related to data processing and being available for data subject inquiries. Leading incident response processes for privacy matters. Collaborating with Abbott Privacy leadership and partnering with global Compliance teams. Leading oversight of the Divisions’ privacy compliance program and coordinating with regional teams. Developing division‑specific policies, procedures, work instructions, and related documents. Providing guidelines, checklists, training, and resources to streamline privacy impact and risk assessments requests. Triaging, routing, tracking, and managing privacy projects and risk assessments. Working with product and engineering teams to enhance Privacy by Design methodologies for global initiatives. Coordinating analysis and privacy responses with regional teams, legal, and IT for audits, inquiries, and Data Subject Access Requests. Creating and managing metrics and tools to communicate Privacy team progress and strategy to senior leadership. Required Qualifications
Bachelor level or equivalent degree. Proven leadership skills in executive stakeholder management, change management, project management, communication, active listening, collaboration, decision making, and agile learning. Experience working with all levels of management up to Division President, Corporate and Divisional VPs/Directors; strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to manage across multiple languages, geographies and time zones. 8–10 years of experience demonstrating decision making, personnel management and leadership. Strong process management mindset and understanding of business interests and data processing activity. Experience with digital technologies. Strong knowledge of data protection and cybersecurity laws/regulations and ability to assess risk and business benefit. Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting product launches or familiarity with product launch lifecycle. Experience scaling privacy controls and capabilities. Experience in program management, consulting, or internal regulatory compliance. Experience with data security and privacy compliance practices, risks and controls. Professional privacy certification (e.g., CIPP, CIPM, CIPT, CDPSE). Ability to navigate a matrixed organization and align stakeholders to execute a strategy.
