Overview
Senior Director, ACTech role at Atlantic Council. The Senior Director will be based in Washington, DC and lead ACTech, coordinating across ACTech and the wider Atlantic Council. The role involves strategy, operations, technical management, and integration of tech programs toward collective impact, with outward-facing representation as needed (including events, meetings with officials, and donor engagement).
Job Responsibilities
Coordination and Integration: Serve as the most senior leader in ACTech-based staff in Washington, facilitate coordination across the Atlantic Council’s Technology Programs and tech-focused programming across the Council, and work with the Vice President to integrate programs operationally and strategically.
Intellectual Leadership: Develop intellectual and policy frameworks to advance the Council’s mission, expand ACTech’s thought leadership, and contribute to strategy with the leadership team.
Programmatic Design and Oversight: Develop programming and new initiatives to influence policy at the intersection of technology and geopolitics; oversee multiple projects simultaneously.
Business Development: Generate programmatic content, craft fundraising proposals, and secure financial support from diverse sources including corporations, government agencies, international organizations, foundations, and individuals.
Staff and Financial Management: Foster growth opportunities for ACTech staff, manage budgets, development activity, and long-term sustainability, and coordinate with a network of senior fellows.
Outreach/Communications: Represent the Atlantic Council externally with government, donors, media, and at events; engage with officials and donors as needed.
Specific Job Responsibilities
Serve as a bridge between ACTech staff and leadership, communicating priorities and executing the leadership’s vision.
Oversee ACTech operations, including budget stewardship, hiring standards, and technical outputs, in collaboration with the Vice President and management team.
Serve as the primary senior leader of ACTech programs at the Washington, DC headquarters.
Facilitate strategy and growth on artificial intelligence and other critical technologies.
Represent the organization with internal and external stakeholders, including remarks at or moderating events and meetings with donors.
Act as an integrator for technology matters across programs and centers to maintain an efficient and collaborative Council-wide operation.
Assist in organizing staff meetings and manage relationships with key funders, coordinating with relevant programs to develop materials and deliverables.
Support incubating initiatives and centers and collaborate with Finance and Development teams to ensure prudent fiscal management and track opportunities.
Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
A minimum of ten years of significant work experience on emerging technologies within public service, the private sector, NGOs, or academia.
Mastery of tech policy, human rights, geopolitics, and tech industry operations in a global context.
Extensive experience in program management and development, preferably in nonprofit or entrepreneurial environments.
Excellent writing, editing, and briefing skills; ability to draft policy-like documents under tight deadlines.
Strong bipartisan and international network among government, business, and civil society.
Proven budget management, government grant response, and fundraising experience, including engaging individuals, foundations, and corporate funders.
Ability to build networks and partnerships with analysts, government leaders, NGOs, international institutions, and business executives.
Strongly Desired Qualifications
Master’s degree or equivalent in International Affairs, Journalism, Public Policy or a related field.
International experience and foreign language skills.
Experience in international policymaking or advocacy.
Subject matter expertise in artificial intelligence or other critical emerging technologies.
Active on social media and/or a high degree of digital literacy.
