SPRED, Special Religious Development, is an agency of the Archdiocese that assists parishes and dioceses with establishing faith formation ministries for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Associate Director of SPRED assists the Executive Director of SPRED with the management of the SPRED ministry in the Archdiocese of Chicago and will focus primarily on managing initiatives pertaining to catechist formation and initiatives related to stewardship and development. Additionally, the Associate Director will assist the Executive Director of SPRED and the SPRED team in mission advancement, communications, and Extradiocesean outreach.
Responsibilities
Associate Director:
Catechist Formation:
Oversees and coordinates specialized training for SPRED catechists.
Manages the development and editing of all materials used for training SPRED catechists including presentations and resource guides.
Develops and coordinates ongoing formation and enrichment opportunities for SPRED catechists.
Obtains feedback from parishes, catechists, and SPRED families and organizes data to communicate the work and impact of SPRED formation initiatives.
Mentors current and new SPRED catechists.
Stewardship and Development:
Coordinate with the fundraising board on all stewardship and development initiatives for the SPRED ministry.
Develop and implement a donor engagement strategy in collaboration with the fundraising board to maximize donations and retain and expand the donor base.
Manage the SPRED donor database.
Build relationships with current SPRED benefactors and potential SPRED benefactors.
Assist with the planning and executing fundraising efforts for the SPRED ministry.
Ensure timely acknowledgement/recognition of donors and contributions as appropriate through mail, email and phone.
Mission Advancement:
Assist the Executive Director and SPRED Coordinators with establishing, sustaining and growing SPRED ministries at parishes within the Archdiocese of Chicago.
Assist catechists and parish leaders with developing environments for SPRED ministry.
Build relationships with SPRED catechists, parish leaders, and Vicariate support teams.
Communications:
Contribute to the SPRED monthly newsletter and assist with editing the newsletter.
Assist with developing content for the SPRED website and social media accounts.
Manage the drafting and updating of resources for parish and diocesan leaders.
Assist with writing and editing annual SPRED sessions.
Extradiocesan Outreach and Support:
Collaborate with worldwide SPRED Directors on updating training and mission advancement materials.
Support Diocesan leadership in their efforts to establish, sustain and grow SPRED in their diocese.
Assist with training diocesan leadership in dioceses interested in establishing SPRED ministry.
Assist with seminars and enrichment opportunities for dioceses outside Chicago that support SPRED.
Assist with organizing national and international conferences for SPRED leaders.
Requirements
Master’s Degree in a related field from an accredited college or university.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to interact effectively with benefactors, teammates and colleagues at all levels of Archdiocese.
Knowledge or experience in Catholic ministry and faith formation with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Prior experience organizing and coordinating fundraising initiatives.
Knowledge or experience with grant writing.
Excellent computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams).
