Overview
Sound Investment is seeking an experienced Staff Accountant to join our team in Chicago, IL. The Staff Accountant supports the accounting and finance team by performing daily accounting tasks, maintaining accurate financial records, and assisting with month-end and year-end closing. This role ensures compliance with company policies, accounting principles, and relevant regulations while providing timely and accurate financial data to management. The Staff Accountant must work from our Chicago office 5 days a week.
Salary Range: $85,000 - 105,000
Responsibilities
Oversee and train the AP clerk to properly complete their daily tasks
Prepare and maintain accurate financial records in accordance with GAAP
Record journal entries, accruals, and adjustments in the general ledger
Reconcile credit card accounts and other balance sheet accounts monthly
Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
Assist in the AR collections effort
Support the month-end and year-end closing processes
Review and verify the accuracy of financial data and resolve discrepancies
Assist in maintaining fixed asset schedules and depreciation records and work with financing companies and vendors
Responsible for incoming vendor commissions
Assist in contract reviews and dissemination
Assist with the company’s fleet management and ensure proper documentation is updated
Compile, report and submit business licenses for the companies
Collaborate with internal departments to ensure proper procedures and update the procedures when appropriate
Provide documentation and support for internal and external audits
Assist with process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy within the accounting function
Perform other accounting-related duties as assigned
Qualifications
Skills
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Excellent organizational and time management skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Experience
Education : Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or pursuing CPA a plus)
Experience : 1–3 years of accounting experience (internship or prior staff accounting role preferred)
Knowledge : Solid understanding of GAAP and general accounting principles
Technical Skills
Proficiency in QuickBooks accounting software
Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, formulas)
Familiarity with ERP systems is a plus
