Overview
DESCRIPTION Reporting to the Senior Vice President / General Manager, the
Lead Data Modeling Engineer (Azure)
is responsible for the architecture, design, development and deployment of data modeling and reporting capabilities utilizing Microsoft Azure Analysis Services, Azure Databricks and Microsoft Power BI software platforms. The role is part of our Enterprise Data Platform team that manages the ingestion, storage, modeling, and consumption of data for Acosta and our clients. The Lead Modeling Engineer is also accountable for the optimization and automation of those BI solutions within Acosta's Enterprise Data Platform. Ideal locations : Jacksonville, FL; Dallas, TX; Rogers, AR; St. Louis, MO; Chicago, IL; or Charlotte, NC. Open to other candidates in EST or CST time zones. *This position is not eligible for Visa Sponsorship (i.e. H1-B, H4, etc.). Responsibilities
Development of complex/advanced Azure Analysis Services (AAS) Tabular models with large volumes of data and advanced business logic, and enhancements to existing large/advanced AAS models. Creation of complex and efficient views in Azure Databricks to support AAS Tabular modeling requirements. Work closely with Project Managers / Scrum Masters, BI Architects, BI QA Analysts and Data Engineering Developers in both Agile and Waterfall settings to deliver solutions that meet business and product requirements by deadline. Performance monitoring, tuning and optimization of AAS and Power BI models. Mentor Junior and Senior Data Modelers in Power BI and AAS development, focusing on optimization and automation. Investigate new and emerging technologies with potential uses for Microsoft and other BI technologies by researching, POC'ing and sharing solutions within the Data Platform team to drive efficiency and innovation. Continually focus on self-development by allocating time to develop BI, modeling, and data skills. Automation and scheduling/triggering of data refreshes for the AAS models. Provisioning and sizing of AAS resources. Occasional development of new complex/advanced Power BI reports and enhancements to existing reports. Familiarize with Acosta's services (Retail, Headquarter Selling) and data solutions (NARS, POS, CPG Syndicated) that support those services. Think critically about data model solutions; understand their broader implications beyond the numbers and extract actionable insights. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications
Minimum Education and Work Experience Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in related field. Microsoft Certification: Data Analyst Associate. MCSA: BI Reporting. Microsoft Certification: Azure Data Engineer Associate. 10 years of related work experience. 7 years of experience in Microsoft SSAS, AAS and data warehouse design for BI. 5 years of experience with data analytics and various report development software. 5 years of experience in Power BI including M Query and DAX development. Experience working with ETL tools such as Azure Databricks. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Expert in Power BI, including Vertipaq storage engine (compression/segmentation), performance measurement and monitoring, analyzing query plans, and advanced optimization of large models. Advanced understanding of Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS) foundations and best practices for optimizing data and reporting. Advanced proficiency in AAS (or SSAS) tabular models, including loading data, relationships, modeling, analyzing query plans, security, processing, and partitioning. Solid foundation in Azure Databricks including navigation within workspaces, querying notebooks, usage of gateways and DSNs. Good problem solving and debugging skills.
