About the Position VHB's structural engineering group works on infrastructure projects including bridge and interchange design, rehabilitation and inspection, pedestrian walkways, and transit stations. The firm focuses on advancing mobility for the traveling public and has received recognitions such as the 2025 Best Managed Company. We are growing in the Southeastern region and seek a Senior Structural Engineer. You will be part of an award-winning firm with a dynamic environment, leading model-based bridge design for transportation projects in Florida, Georgia, and along the East Coast. The role includes leading technical work in planning, analysis, design, and detailing of bridge and related transportation structures, mentoring staff, and serving as a Project Manager with potential involvement in project pursuits. Perform structural modeling, design, and oversight for bridge and other transportation infrastructure projects Prepare construction documents, including plans, specifications, estimates, and calculation packages Provide technical support and mentorship to structural engineering staff Perform quality assurance reviews of project construction documents and engineering reports Assist in preparation of qualification packages, proposals and/or contracts involving technical approach, costs, and scheduling Provide project management Review fabrication drawings and provide construction plan reviews Skills & Abilities
Self-motivated with excellent attention to detail and quality Strong technical skills in bridge/structural design and critical thinking Strong organizational and time management skills Effective and comfortable in a collaborative team environment Excellent verbal presentations and technical writing Experience leading and mentoring junior staff Model-based design experience Project management skills Minimum Qualifications
Minimum 8–11 years of structural bridge/transportation design experience B.S. in Civil Engineering required; master's degree preferred PE license required or ability to attain within 6 months Experience completing engineering studies, design reports, and contract documents per standards and procedures including AASHTO, GDOT, local municipalities/counties, and other state DOTs Strong familiarity with structural engineering software (e.g., Mathcad, FB-MultiPier, ATLAS, STAAD Pro, LARSA 4D, AASHTOWare, MDX, SP Column, MerlinDASH, GDOT Structures Design Programs) Model-based design experience is a strong plus, e.g., Bentley OpenBridge and OpenRoads, AutoCAD Civil 3D and Revit/InfraWorks/Inventor About VHB
