Overview
Business Development Director, Northeast Region. The Director of Business Development is responsible for driving new customers and business growth for Serns client accounts. This position will develop business relationships with respective client organizations and serve as lead point of contact for all client matters. The successful candidate will have a fundamental understanding of drug development and drug product technologies and services, build relationships with clients, anticipate client needs, align solutions with needs for current and future proposals, ensure deadlines are met for active projects and proposals, and help customers realize success relative to collaborations with Sern both current and in the future. The role joins a highly skilled BD team strategically located throughout North America and focuses on new client relationships within regions with growth opportunity to enhance customer service support while strengthening existing relationships. Some travel to Bend, Oregon may be required. Responsibilities Generate new leads and opportunities leveraging Serns and the incumbents network Build solid, trusting, and measurable relationships with clients and companies while developing a complete understanding of client needs Participate in client visits, regional and national trade shows, and conferences as required Manage both Serns existing pipeline and new business opportunities Coordinate communications between customers and internal teams and assist with management of team activities assigned to each customer Work with internal stakeholders (e.g., Executive, Tech Ops, Project Mgmt) to build client relationships and improve customer results Contribute to the development of proposals and presentations for new business development materials Adeptly present Serns capabilities and value proposition to new clients Negotiate agreements as part of a team with BD, corporate, and legal leadership, including CDAs, MSAs, and commercial supply agreements Resolve client issues, complaints and anticipate key account improvements by project management guidance and outreach Identify market trends and customer needs, building a short/medium/long-term sales pipeline in accordance with targets Participate in site management team and planning meetings, including setting objectives and strategies and taking accountability for implementation and results Support the broader BD team in developing new service offerings and analyzing market trends Assist in the coordination and implementation of marketing strategies and delegate tasks to achieve strategic goals Responsibilities may increase in scope to align with company initiatives
Qualifications
Excellent verbal and written communication skills Excellent interpersonal, business, and customer service skills Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail Excellent negotiation skills with ability to follow through on customer contracts/management Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines Ability to prioritize tasks and delegate when appropriate Ability to function well in a high-paced and sometimes stressful environment Proficient with CRM, Office and other related software
Education and Experience
Minimum requirement of a Bachelors degree in a related scientific discipline, business, or marketing 5-10+ years pharmaceutical drug product development experience with preference for candidates with at least 2 years in a client-facing capacity Track record of technical leadership, including technical conference and client presentations Experience in a Sales/Business Development role is preferred, but not required Candidates with a technical background who are moving into a commercial role are encouraged to apply
Travel Requirements
Approximately 25% travel required, with potential for >50% at times Travel will be domestic, with potential for international travel
Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time
