Senior Staff Software Engineer - Rider Experience

Overview
Zoox is building the future of transportation. We’re seeking a technical leader to craft a delightful user experience across rider-facing interfaces, including ride hailing mobile apps, the in-vehicle infotainment tablet, and the systems that orchestrate and manage the overall vehicle experience. We leverage Kotlin as a foundational technology; our mobile apps share cross-platform logic via Kotlin MultiPlatform, the Infotainment tablet is an embedded Android App authored in Kotlin, and our cloud backend is written in Kotlin. Supporting technologies include Jetpack Compose for Android, SwiftUI for iOS, AOSP for the infotainment platform, and C++ for vehicle experience components. Our ideal candidate has depth in Android application development and breadth to influence across the full product stack, including cloud and robot software.
Responsibilities
Partner with product, design and engineering leadership to define a technical vision, strategy and roadmap that complements the product direction. Design end-to-end technical solutions that span user interfaces, cloud systems, autonomous planner, and vehicle firmware. Drive cross-team and cross-organization initiatives to execute roadmaps and solutions. Establish best practices for reliability, performance, and operational excellence. Mentor and provide technical leadership both within and outside of your immediate organization.
Qualifications
Bachelor\'s degree in Computer Science or related field with 8+ years of software engineering experience. Deep expertise in Android development using Kotlin. Proven experience architecting and designing full-stack applications. Demonstrated success leading complex technical initiatives across multiple teams. History of driving operational excellence, improving observability, performance and reliability of client and mobile systems. Excellent communication skills and ability to influence product and technical direction. Strong track record of mentoring senior engineers and growing technical teams.
Bonus Qualifications
Experience with embedded Android and AOSP. Experience with Swift and iOS application development. Experience with C++ application development. Experience with large-scale distributed systems.
Base Salary Range
$241,000 - $336,000 a year
There are three major components to compensation for this position: salary, Amazon Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights. A sign-on bonus may be offered as part of the compensation package. The listed range applies only to the base salary. Compensation will vary based on geographic location and level. Leveling, as well as positioning within a level, is determined by a range of factors, including, but not limited to, a candidate\'s relevant years of experience, domain knowledge, and interview performance. The salary range listed in this posting is representative of the range of levels Zoox is considering for this position.
