Position Summary The VP, Commercial Large Group & Product Actuary will lead the Actuarial team to drive the profitable growth of approximately $8B in revenue, $1B in earnings across 11M members with sound risk management, pricing, sales support, and reserving practices. This team is responsible for anticipating and recognizing matters that materially affect financial integrity and making sound, unbiased reports on these issues.
Major Responsibilities
Lead actuarial teams supporting National Accounts and Public & Labor segments, partnering with Sales, Account Management, Product, Finance, Underwriting and segment leaders to drive profitable growth for Aetna’s largest commercial clients
Lead Commercial Product Actuarial team, collaborating with Product, Clinical, Finance, Underwriting and Analytics teams to develop and price benefit offerings that meet the needs of plan sponsors across all commercial segments, enhance Aetna’s value proposition and deliver profitable growth
In collaboration with Underwriting, Finance, Product and field and segment leaders, design market-competitive pricing and product strategies for all large employer self-funded businesses that meet Aetna’s long-term objectives
Oversee Service Pricing team, establishing pricing strategies for appropriate expense recovery across all commercial products and services with consideration for long-term cost outlook and associated risks and opportunities
Manage team responsible for preparation and submission of discount and total cost of care data to consulting firms, partnering with Network and Commercial leadership to establish expectations and assess outcomes and owning relationships with actuarial leaders across numerous consulting firms to advocate for methodologies that produce appropriate market positioning for Aetna
Develop performance guarantees and other risk-based arrangements for self-funded plan sponsors, continually innovating with Sales, Account Management, Underwriting, Analytics and other leaders to bring competitive programs to market that provide an appropriate risk-reward balance for Aetna
Collaborate extensively with Underwriting, Finance, Commercial and executive leaders on numerous new and renewal jumbo case bids, providing expertise and guidance around financial risks and bid strategies
Build and cultivate external relationships with numerous large plan sponsors and benefit consultants, advising on economic and cost outlook, Aetna’s value proposition, risk considerations and other industry insights
Partner with Finance, Analytics, Operations, Underwriting and Product to develop long-term revenue strategies across commercial self-funded businesses
Required Qualifications
15+ years of relevant Actuarial and/or Underwriting experience
Commercial business knowledge
Strong people leadership experience
Innovative thinker
Proven leadership skills and strong cross-functional relationships with sales and other internal organizations
Experience in anticipating customer needs and requirements as well as facilitating and negotiating using tact and diplomacy
Demonstrated success in communicating effectively with internal and external constituents
Proven ability to negotiate internal and external cross-functional business issues

Compensation and Benefits The Typical Pay Range For This Role Is
Minimum: $240,000.00
Maximum: $340,000.00
This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
In addition to your compensation, CVS Health offers a full range of medical, dental, and vision benefits. Eligible employees may enroll in the Company’s 401(k) retirement savings plan, and an Employee Stock Purchase Plan is also available for eligible employees. The Company provides a fully-paid term life insurance plan, and short-term and long-term disability benefits.
