County Counsel The County Counsel is the chief legal advisor to the Board of Supervisors, County departments, and various agencies and special districts. This role calls for a seasoned legal professional who can interpret and apply law in a rapidly evolving landscape—offering clear, timely, and solutions-focused counsel on high-stakes matters. THE OPPORTUNITY
Provide clear and concise legal options that consider risk exposure, legal precedent, and policy implications. Deliver prompt, well-reasoned legal analysis on matters ranging from daily operations to emerging legal and legislative issues. Serve as a trusted legal advisor to the Board of Supervisors, ensuring alignment with applicable laws and ethical standards. Anticipate legal challenges and proactively guide the Board in navigating complex legal terrain. Identify and pursue affirmative litigation opportunities to protect County interests, enforce local ordinances, and uphold public policy priorities. IDEAL CANDIDATE The County of San Diego is seeking an experienced, strategic, and highly responsive County Counsel to provide legal leadership on complex matters impacting our diverse and dynamic community. Serving as the chief legal advisor to the Board of Supervisors, you will play a critical role in shaping and guiding policy decisions with expert legal counsel that supports the Board’s priorities while managing legal risk. As a key member of the County’s executive team, you will ensure that legal strategy aligns with the County’s mission and the Board’s vision for the region.
