Responsibilities

This position maintains continuous state of alertness and awareness to control and secure the facility and residents. Operates within legal constraints and contract agency stipulations. Ensures that equipment necessary for each watch is operational (radios, flashlights, keys) prior to relieving the watch. Prepares shift documentation including shift reports, work orders, security reports, and unusual incidents that are legible, concise, and meet facility standards and contracting agency requirements. Receives information from previous shift personnel regarding events, medical problems, disciplinary problems, new arrivals, and special instructions. Relieves the watch and informs necessary personnel that the watch has been relieved. Makes entries into the security log with time, name, and title. Conducts radio checks and documents results in the security log. Conducts facility counts at prescribed times and ensures logbooks are accurate. Patrols the building to observe residents and monitor the facility; includes checking for security and safety concerns. Ensures the building picture board has all resident photos in the proper bed slots. Organizes and supervises resident work details to maintain facility cleanliness and meet requirements. Performs activities on a scheduled and random basis including urinalysis testing, pat downs, shakedowns, counts, or breath tests as needed to maintain security. Documents disciplinary actions for rule violations according to procedure. Conducts cleanliness checks of the facility and residents’ belongings to meet health and environmental requirements. Welcomes visitors and verifies identity while maintaining professionalism and courtesy. Communicates with residents and staff to affirm self-esteem, dignity, and positive relations. Participates in staff meetings to identify and resolve problems and function as a team. Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information on a need-to-know basis. Adheres to company policies and attendance requirements, including overtime as needed for safety. Complies with safety rules and takes corrective action to ensure safe, injury-free work. Communicates effectively with all levels of staff to promote teamwork. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent. One (1) year general work experience; experience in a related field preferred. Sufficient organizational skills to maintain ongoing workflow. Ability to express thoughts logically, in writing and verbally, with correct grammar. Demonstrated flexibility to perform a wide range of duties. Ability to interact effectively with others and learn supervisory techniques. Ability to maintain positive relations with staff and residents and motivate others. Ability to work with computers and typical facility software.
