About the Role
Ara Partners is seeking a Policy Counsel / Advisor to join our Government Affairs team in Washington, D.C. This role sits at the intersection of policy analysis and investor decision-making, with a focus on U.S. and global policy landscapes. JD strongly preferred. Responsibilities
Monitor, analyze, and summarize legislative, regulatory, and political developments relevant to clean energy and industrial policy. Produce high-quality, technically precise written materials—including memos, policy briefs, funding proposals, and regulatory comments—for both expert and non-expert audiences. Lead and support grant application processes, including grant writing, application management, and compliance with federal, state, and international funding programs. Identify and evaluate non-dilutive funding opportunities, including ongoing monitoring of emerging grant and government funding programs at all levels. Collaborate with senior team members and manage consultants to develop and implement strategies. Create and format advanced PowerPoint presentations that clearly communicate complex policy and technical information to stakeholders. Track and report on policy changes using databases, media, and government sources. Support the planning and execution of Washington, D.C. fly-ins and stakeholder meetings. Serve as a liaison for portfolio company CEOs and investment teams. Build and maintain relationships with government officials, coalition partners, and stakeholders. Conduct in-depth research and provide strategic insights to internal and external audiences. What We Are Looking For
JD or advanced degree in law, public policy, political science, or related field strongly preferred. 3+ years’ experience in government relations, policy analysis, or related roles. Demonstrated experience with grant writing, application management, and / or direct experience with government funding programs. Experience working with government, defense, or international agencies is a plus. Demonstrated excellence in technical writing, with the ability to translate complex topics for diverse audiences. Document layout and production skills in Word, including use of references, styles, and image formatting. Advanced PowerPoint skills, including formatting and visual storytelling. Deep understanding of legislative processes and political environments. Interest and familiarity with a range of energy and industrial technologies. Strong analytical, research, and organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and work collaboratively across teams and time zones. Culture Fit & Impact
