Overview
This is a unique opportunity to lead marketing in launching and establishing the success of Long Beach’s new independent professional baseball team. The Head of Marketing will oversee all marketing, communications, public relations, digital media, and community engagement strategies to drive fan interest, game attendance, sponsorship value, and lasting community impact. This role is responsible for building and executing the overall brand, voice and visibility of Long Beach Baseball Club with the local community and broader market. The Head of Marketing will develop and execute strategies that deepen community connections, manage media relations, and increase the team’s visibility through impactful storytelling, local partnerships, and consistent communication. As a key member of the front office leadership team, this individual will ensure the organization reflects and supports the values of the local community while strengthening its regional profile. This role is both strategic and hands-on, and the successful candidate will enjoy creating something amazing from the ground up. As a part of the Innovation Baseball portfolio, you will also have influence on and support from the central IBP team as well as the other portfolio teams. Key Responsibilities
Brand Marketing & Creative
Maintain and evolve the team’s brand identity, including voice, look/feel, and storytelling. Oversee creative production (graphics, videos, promotional materials). Collaborate with sponsorship and ticketing departments to promote sales initiatives and sponsor activations. Lead promotional campaigns for theme nights, events, giveaways, and merchandise.
Communications & Public Relations
Serve as the primary brand steward and communications strategist for the organization. Lead all media and public relations efforts, including press releases, media outreach, interviews, crisis communication, and team spokesperson duties. Build and maintain strong relationships with local and regional media outlets. Collaborate with baseball operations, ownership, and front office to ensure consistent messaging.
Digital Marketing & Social Media
Develop and execute the digital marketing strategy across platforms (website, email, paid ads, etc.). Lead social media strategy, content creation, and engagement across platforms (e.g., Instagram, X/Twitter, Facebook, TikTok). Track and analyze digital metrics and fan engagement to inform strategy and drive growth. Oversee digital content calendar in coordination with game schedule, promotions, and campaigns.
Community Relations & Outreach
Build and lead local outreach efforts with schools, nonprofits, civic organizations, and community leaders. Build and manage community-facing programs and partnerships (e.g., youth clinics, school visits, charitable events). Represent the team at community functions and ensure a visible, positive presence. Design initiatives that align the team with local causes, nonprofits, schools, and civic organizations. Manage in-kind donations, team appearances, and mascot/community ambassador schedules. Develop annual community impact reports and storytelling assets.
Fan Experience
Drive initial and repeat game attendance through compelling fan experience spanning pre-game, game, and post-game activities. Collaborate with baseball management and stadium operations teams to create experiences that support the fan and the game while also increasing overall game-day revenue.
Qualifications
8+ years of experience in marketing, public relations, or community engagement; sports/entertainment industry preferred. Demonstrated leadership in brand building, fan engagement, and content strategy. Strong understanding of digital and social media marketing best practices. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Early adopter and proponent of ways to innovate both experience and back-end operations. Creative thinker with a strong attention to detail and storytelling instincts. Comfortable working evenings, weekends, and game days as required. Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations, or a related field. Preferred Attributes
