JR102989**Work Shift**Day**Scheduled Weekly Hours**40**Summary**This position is accountable for guiding the financial strategy, stewardship, and operational excellence of Mercy’s complex financial ecosystem and owning the results to advance its mission. The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) functions as a strategic partner to the President & CEO and advises/supports the Executive Team, Board of Trustees and Mercy Management Team to ensure the achievement of Mercy’s strategic initiatives and short/long-term financial goals. The CFO oversees financial operations across both non-profit and for-profit entities, ensuring alignment with Mercy’s faith-based mission and compliance with all regulatory and ethical standards. In addition, the CFO serves as executive liaison to the Finance, Investment and Planning Committees of the Board of Trustees, and regularly interacts directly with the full Board and its other Board committees.**Job Description*** **Job Duties**
+ Accountable to the President & CEO as a trusted and strategic advisor to achieve system-wide results.
+ Develops and implements long-range financial plans aligned with the Mercy's mission, growth objectives, and industry trends.
+ Owns the successful fiscal operations, financial assets and related record keeping functions for MCSC, MMC, MCMI, and the Foundation in a prudent and fiscally responsible manner.
+ Oversees annual operating budgeting, capital budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting and performance monitoring for approval by the President & CEO and the Boards, and presentation to the Boards of MCSC, MMC, MCMI and the Foundation.
+ Builds financial models and strategic partnerships to support expansion, philanthropy, joint ventures, and value-based care initiatives.
+ Represents Mercy in financial negotiations, acquisitions, and investment decisions.
+ Provides leadership and direction to the Vice President of Finance regarding budgeting, operations analysis, financial projections, decision support, receivables and disbursements, payroll, financial reporting and analysis, tax return and reporting functions, capital tracking, real estate management, reimbursement analysis, cost reporting, payor/contract analysis, benefits analysis, and accounting functions for MCSC, MMC, MCMI and the Foundation and holds them accountable for achieving results.
+ Provides leadership and direction to the Sr. Director of Revenue Cycle and Director of Supply Chain & Clinical Engineering and holds them accountable for achieving results.
+ Accountable for treasury leadership, and direction and results achievement for cash management, debt structure and investment functions for MCSC, MMC, MCMI and the Foundation. Ensures that treasury and related fund investment policies are reviewed and maintained in keeping with the organization’s investment policy and in a manner that maximizes ongoing support for the organization’s mission.
+ Maintains health care industry, finance, and operations knowledge to serve as an information resource.Follows Mercy's safety guidelines, carries out job- specific safety duties and responsibilities, and promptly reports any unsafe conditions, situations, incidents and injuries.**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities*** Excellent technical knowledge concerning all aspects of healthcare industry financial and operational matters and the ability to apply this knowledge effectively to the full range of CFO duties and responsibilities.* Superior written/verbal communication and presentation skills.* Comprehensive and current understanding of the healthcare environment and all related public policy and fiscal management best practice issues.* Superior strategic planning, critical thinking, financial analysis, problem solving and judgment abilities.* Strong interpersonal relations, collaboration, and team-building skills.* Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analyses.* Highly effective leadership skills in development, delegation, performance management and change management.* Ability to work in a complex reporting environment with high level skills in contract preparation and negotiation.* Highly effective information technology and application skills. Knowledge and understanding of best practices for the use of health care industry information technology systems and related applications software.**Professional Experience*** A minimum of ten years of increasingly responsible and successful health care financial leadership experience in complex healthcare settings required.* A minimum of six years of experience as CFO with responsibility in a large multi-service health care organization with both non-profit and for-profit operating entities required.* Successful experience in preparing high level financial reporting documentation, budgeting information, and financial projections to Boards and Committees of a large health care organization required.* Strong evidence of previously successful results in developing and directing staff, in consistently evaluating their performance and providing leadership for their ongoing professional growth required.**Education*** Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or business required.* Master’s degree in finance, health administration or MBA preferred.* Continuing professional education (CPE in healthcare finance and related areas of study) required.**Licensure, Certification, Registration*** Certified Professional Accountant (CPA) preferred.**Pay Rate Type**Salary***Mercy is an independent, community-based organization supporting the Cedar Rapids area for over 120 years.***Mercy is an equal-opportunity employer.
