The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program
acts as the central element of the Missile Defense System. It enables the U.S. president, the secretary of defense, and combatant commanders to plan ballistic missile defense operations, monitor the battle, and dynamically manage networked sensors and weapon systems to achieve global and regional mission objectives. C2BMC supports a layered missile defense capability that provides an optimized response to threats at every phase of flight and serves as a vital component of system ground and flight tests. This position will be assigned to the C2BMC Systems Engineering Team within SEIT. The Interface Engineer is a Systems Engineer and will occasionally support non-interface systems engineering activities. The Engineer will lead the development of ICDs and IDDs, including establishing new interfaces between external elements, such as sensors, and other Command and Control Systems. They will ensure that ICDs and IDDs comply with applicable standards and will develop behavioral diagrams and detailed requirements in DOORS to guide implementation teams. Essential Functions
The Interface Engineer's primary responsibility will be to develop and update several Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and Interface Design Documents (IDDs). Attend interface working group meetings with the MDA customer and external element engineering representatives; support program integration and test efforts related to the interface. Assist other interface engineers with developing ICDs for additional BMDS Elements; support requirements engineering, use case development, and logical architecture modeling tasks as needed by the SE department. Support spiral leadership to ensure interface artifacts and system assessment tasks for the assigned sensor interface are completed as needed. Possess over 9 years of professional experience in Systems Engineering or a related field. Extensive experience in authoring ICDs and IDDs that are DID-compliant and meet DoD standards. Ability to work effectively as part of a team developing systems engineering products and artifacts while following the program's Systems Engineering Management Plan (SEMP) and other processes. Salary range in Huntsville: $131,100 - $196,700 Salary range in Colorado Springs: $124,900 - $187,300 Basic Qualifications

A Bachelors Degree in a STEM field (e.g., Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics) from an accredited university is preferred, along with 8 years of experience; or a Masters degree (preferred) in a STEM-related discipline with 6 years of experience; or a PhD with 4 years of experience. Applicants must have a current, active in-scope DoD-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application. Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% to support business needs. Understanding of the systems engineering process and its principles. Proven history of applying systems engineering principles to develop product solutions. Experience in requirements elicitation, including using behavior diagrams to understand and decompose requirements. Experience with interface engineering and authoring ICDs and IDDs, including:
Message definition and processing rules Message formatting (e.g., XML, VMF) Physical/network specifications and models, including the ISO OSI model Physical/network topologies and devices Network protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, UDP)
Experience and knowledge of requirements engineering and development of behavioral models and diagrams, including use cases, sequence diagrams, and activity diagrams. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Preferred Qualifications
A masters degree in STEM Systems Engineering is preferred. Certification: INCOSE Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP). Certification: Object Management Group Certified Systems Modeling Professional - Model Builder Fundamental (OCSMP - MBF). Experience with authoring Missile Defense System ICDs and IDDs is highly desirable. Experience in authoring Complex Command and Control Systems ICDs and IDDs is highly desirable. Experience with IBM Rational DOORS for requirements engineering is highly desirable. Experience with RMF-based cybersecurity and Agile or iterative development methods is a plus.
