Position Summary: Responsible for engineering design using knowledge of general engineering principles and practices to interpret, organize, execute, and coordinate assignments with limited supervision. Acts as a technical advisor to less experienced engineers. Responsible for or assisting with delivering project objectives for assigned projects including scope, schedule, and budget.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Plan, schedule, conduct or coordinate detailed phases of the engineering work in a part of a major project or in a total project of moderate scope.
Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography and other topographical or geologic data to plan projects/tasks
May perform structural inspections/field investigations (if needed) and develop related reports
Performs structural analysis and design computations
Design projects in accordance with client specifications and guidelines, using design software and drawing tools
May perform CADD work in the development of construction plans, as needed
Develop or review the construction cost estimate.
Prepare and compile contract plans, specifications and estimates
Coordinate with internal team members to ensure project completion by the defined deadline and established quality
Participate in client meetings and presentations
May perform CADD work in the development of construction plans, as needed.
Prepare and compile contract plans, specifications and estimates
Attend meetings with clients and assist taking meeting minutes
Coordinate with other disciplines and understand how they fit into the project and design.
Quality review of project design in accordance with the Project Management Plan.
Technical oversight and guidance/support of Design Engineers within department
Nonessential Functions and Responsibilities Perform other related duties as assigned
Required Skills Proficient in discipline specific design software (e.g. LEAP Bridge Enterprise, LPile, MDX, CSiBridge, Merlin DASH, Bentley Microstation and /or OpenRoads/Bridge software)
Proficient in Microsoft Office
Written and communication skills
Required Experience Bachelors degree in civil engineering or a related field from an ABET accredited engineering program with a concentration in structural engineering.
5-10 years experience in bridge design
Professional Engineer License (or the ability to obtain a North Carolina Professional Engineer License)
Preferred Experience Masters degree in structural engineering
Experience working with AASHTO Specifications and manuals.
Bridge design or related experience
Experience working with local clients at the county and state level
Working Conditions Work is performed within a general office environment 95% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment. Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required as needed.
