Job Title:
Sr. Machine Design Engineer - Custom Machine and Automation Engineer Duration:
1+ years
Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly experienced Sr. Machine Design Engineer to design and develop custom machinery and automation systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical design, automation, and integration, with a deep understanding of engineering principles and problem-solving. This role requires expertise in designing robust, long-lasting machines with ease of maintenance and component selection in mind. Candidates must have a passion for innovation and a proven ability to develop unique, non-standard machines tailored to specific applications.
Key Responsibilities: Design and develop custom machinery and mechanical systems for various industries, including automotive, aerospace, medical, consumer products, and industrial automation. Conduct feasibility studies, concept development, and engineering analysis to ensure optimal design solutions. Create detailed 3D models, assemblies, and 2D drawings using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor, or equivalent). Select appropriate materials, components, and manufacturing processes to meet performance, reliability, and cost objectives. Collaborate with electrical, controls, and software engineers to integrate automation, sensors, actuators, and control systems. Develop and execute testing protocols, troubleshoot issues, and optimize machine performance. Oversee fabrication, assembly, and commissioning of custom machines, ensuring compliance with industry standards and customer specifications. Manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and maintaining quality standards. Stay up to date with emerging technologies and industry trends to drive innovation in custom machine design. Qualifications and Skills:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field (Master's degree is a plus). Minimum of 7+ years of experience in custom machine design and mechanical system development. Strong proficiency in 3D CAD modeling and drafting (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor, or similar software). Deep understanding of mechanical principles, including kinematics, dynamics, hydraulics, pneumatics, and structural analysis. Experience with various manufacturing processes such as machining, welding, casting, and additive manufacturing. Knowledge of automation, robotics, and motion control systems. Ability to perform engineering calculations, including FEA (Finite Element Analysis) and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing). Strong problem-solving skills with a proven ability to develop innovative, cost-effective solutions. Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team. Familiarity with industry standards such as ASME, ISO, ANSI, and OSHA safety regulations. Additional Considerations:
Candidates with a 2-year technical degree must have 10-15 years of experience in custom machine design. Strong history and passion for problem-solving and critical thinking. Experience in designing machines expected to last 10+ years, with an emphasis on robustness, maintenance, and component selection. Candidates should have experience beyond paper processing machines and demonstrate expertise in developing new-to-world solutions.
