Christ Church United Methodist Food Bank
Food distribution to clients (T, W, or Th mornings)
Christ Church United Methodist Food Bank, Tucson, Arizona, United States, 85718
When: Volunteers needed on a weekly basis on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays when the food bank is open from 9am to noon. Ideal candidates are able to to commit to a specific day every week. However, we also need people who can fill in as substitutes when regular volunteers are on vacation, sick, etc.
Time Commitment: Volunteers should arrive early, no later than 8:45 to restock shelves, put out signs, etc. Depending on number of clients, staying after noon may be required, possibly until 12:30pm.
Two roles are available: client check in and food handler. Check in is done on the computer to verify eligibility. Food handlers interact with clients and assist them receiving food, diapers and hygiene products. As needed, volunteers will sort and check dates on donations and restock shelves. Food handlers typically stand for the three hours and lift 25lbs. Knowing basic Spanish is helpful.
Training is provided until you feel comfortable working on your own. Volunteers will fill out an application and sign a confidentiality form. The Community Food Bank requires annual civil rights training and food safety training every three years. These are free and take about an hour each.
