The Albuquerque Journal, New Mexico's leading news source, is seeking a talented and creative News Designer to join our team. As a Designer, you will play a crucial role in the visual presentation of our newspaper, creating captivating layouts, illustrations, and graphics to engage our readers and enhance the overall aesthetic appeal of our publication. Responsibilities:

• Conceptualize and design compelling layouts for newspaper articles, advertisements, and special features, adhering to brand guidelines and editorial standards.
• Develop original graphics, illustrations, charts, and infographics to accompany editorial content and enhance reader comprehension.
• Work closely with editors, writers, and photographers to ensure visual elements effectively complement written content and convey key messages.
• Select, edit, and retouch photographs for publication, ensuring high quality and relevance to the content.
• Stay up-to-date with industry trends, design techniques, and emerging technologies to continuously improve the visual appeal and relevance of our newspaper.
• Assist in the creation of advertisements for local businesses, incorporating client specifications while maintaining the newspaper's aesthetic standards.
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously and deliver high-quality designs within specified deadlines.
• Organize and maintain a library of design assets, including fonts, templates, and graphics, for efficient reuse and consistency across editions.

• 2:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. - Days scheduled will vary.

• 2+ years of professional experience in graphic design. Newspaper experience is strongly preferred.
• Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) and other relevant design tools.
• Strong creative vision and ability to translate concepts into visually appealing designs.
• Meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to effectively convey ideas and feedback to team members.
• Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• A portfolio showcasing a diverse range of design work, including layout designs, illustrations, and other relevant projects.
• Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, or a related field is preferred.
