Key Responsibilities:
Tissue Preparation and Processing:
Prepare skin tissue samples, including fixation, embedding, sectioning, and mounting for examination.
Staining and Special Techniques:
Perform routine and special staining procedures such as Hematoxylin and Eosin (H&E), immunohistochemistry (IHC), and other dermatopathology-specific stains.
Microscope Operation:
Cut tissue specimens into thin sections using microtomes and mount them on slides for analysis.
Quality Control:
Ensure high-quality slide preparation, staining accuracy, and overall consistency of results.
Collaboration with Dermatopathologists:
Assist dermatopathologists by providing well-prepared tissue slides for accurate diagnosis of skin conditions.
Recordkeeping and Documentation:
Maintain accurate patient and specimen records, adhering to confidentiality standards and regulatory requirements.
Equipment Maintenance:
Ensure proper functioning and maintenance of laboratory equipment such as microtomes, staining instruments, and other lab tools.
Qualifications:
Education:
Associate s degree in Histotechnology or a related field.
Certification:
Certification as a Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent is preferred.
Experience:
Minimum 1 year of experience in a dermatopathology or histology laboratory setting is preferred.
Dermatopathology Knowledge:
Familiarity with dermatopathology-specific procedures, including the preparation of skin tissue samples and advanced staining techniques (IHC, special stains).
Attention to Detail:
Exceptional attention to detail and ability to perform tasks with precision and accuracy.
Communication Skills:
Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with dermatopathologists and laboratory staff.
Lab Safety:
Knowledge of safety protocols and laboratory regulations to maintain a safe and efficient working environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in a dermatopathology lab setting.
Proficiency in using laboratory information systems (LIS) and specimen tracking software.
Familiarity with cutting-edge dermatopathology staining techniques and technologies.
