Global Legal plays an important role in protecting the Group’s reputation by helping to future-proof the organisation through robust legal risk and issue advisory. Responsible for providing comprehensive legal advice to senior management and all global businesses and functions, the team offers a diverse range of legal skills, jurisdictional experience, and practice specialisms across all countries and territories in which our businesses operate. We are currently seeking an ambitious individual to join our Global Legal team, working together with colleagues to define, manage, and achieve divisional business targets. Responsibilities
Provide legal advice, guidance, and support to assigned departments to ensure that the department’s exposure to legal risk is managed Deliver specialized legal support on US bank regulatory matters affecting HSBC Group companies within the United States and, as appropriate, regarding HSBC Group companies outside of the US. In particular, provide specialized advice with respect to federal banking laws and the regulations of the OCC, the FRB, and the FDIC Work independently, maintain internal client relationships, manage workload calendars effectively, and interact appropriately with internal clients up to and including senior management Demonstrate the ability to lead by influence, drive change, and move quickly and seamlessly between diverse, complex topics Provide expert and professional legal and strategic advice to identify, report, and mitigate legal and reputational risks faced by businesses in the US Be a trusted advisor to businesses and functions in the US and globally on bank and bank holding company regulatory issues Assist with driving the company’s regulatory policy advocacy initiatives with regulators, collaborating with Legal, Public Affairs, and business and functional partners globally Partner cross-functionally to assess risk and solve complex regulatory issues Provide prompt, commercial, practical, and sometimes complex or specialized legal advice (under supervision) Establish close mutually supportive working relationships with other members of the Legal team and the Global Legal Functions Compensation For this role, HSBC targets a pay range between $230,000 and $280,000. The final fixed pay offer will depend on the candidate and a number of variables, including but not limited to role responsibilities, skill set, depth of experience and education, licensing/certification requirements, internal relativity, and specific work location. At HSBC, our overall goal is to provide a competitive Total Reward Package, with a mix of fixed and variable pay as part of total compensation and benefits. Variable pay generally takes the form of discretionary annual awards (sometimes referred to as a “bonus”). Requirements You’ll likely have the following qualifications to succeed in this role: Minimum of ten years of proven and progressive corporate legal experience, or equivalent Minimum of a Juris Doctorate degree as well as admission to an applicable state Bar and pertinent levels of courts in applicable states Ability to think independently while balancing management and mitigation of legal risk with business efficacy Deepening knowledge of areas of specialty with the ability to anticipate how law is developing to advise clients and reach solutions Strong advocacy, negotiation, interpersonal, organizational, legal research, and verbal/written communication skills Experience working for a federal bank regulatory agency or substantial in-house experience advising on US bank regulatory matters is especially desirable An understanding of the HSBC Group’s structure and culture and the ability to handle increasingly complex legal issues In compliance with applicable laws, HSBC is committed to employing only those who are authorized to work in the country.
