Energy Project Engineer
to join our growing team in the Portland, OR region. We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Engineer with a strong background in Energy Audits & Building Mechanical Systems. As an Energy Project Engineer you will be responsible for technical engineering support for Resource Innovations' Utility Solution Delivery Team operating within the commercial and multifamily customer segments. Specific responsibilities include determining energy efficiency program eligibility, analyzing data to identify and quantify energy savings opportunities, performing building energy modeling, and helping customers understand their energy use and savings potential. You will provide customers the support and tools necessary to identify, quantify and deliver cost-effective energy-efficiency projects through data collection, analysis, modeling and/or calculations, measurement and verification (M&V), and performing ASHRAE Level II energy audits. Additional tasks may include reviewing and scoring grant applications and conducting inspections of EV or renewable energy grant recipient projects. You will coordinate with customers, market actors, contractors, clients, and internal team members to achieve objectives and maintain excellent customer satisfaction. Conduct data collection efforts as well as data analysis Assist in the development and updates to custom measure calculators Lead and support technical report writing, contribute to draft reports with results and actionable recommendations Approximately 20-40% of time dedicated to field work; travel within Oregon by vehicle with limited overnight trips Deliver excellent customer service to commercial and multifamily customers, utility clients, partners, market actors, and internal team members Perform energy audits at commercial existing building facilities to identify, measure, and verify energy efficiency measures and transportation electrification opportunities Champion energy efficiency initiatives, identifying barriers and proposing solutions Provide timely technical and program feedback, listen to customer needs, and set expectations appropriately Produce high quality deliverables (reports and spreadsheets) and provide quality control support to other team members Other duties as assigned Qualifications
3+ years of experience in an energy-related field, preferably in a consulting environment Energy audit/assessments, analysis of energy data, and/or measurement and verification experience EIT, C.E.M., or LEED AP certification (or on track to receive) is desirable Strong understanding of building systems, specifically mechanical and electrical systems and principals including HVAC and refrigeration, thermal and fluid systems, motors, controls, heat pump technologies, electric vehicle supply equipment, and lighting systems Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects while meeting deliverable deadlines and budgets Willingness to work from home/remote, or hybrid and coming into the Portland office occasionally Interest in sustainability and passion for making a meaningful environmental impact Design and specification of HVAC, electrical, building automation/controls Commissioning and/or retro-commissioning test procedures, schematic diagrams, and system specifications Energy modeling experience, ideally with eQUEST, EnergyPlus (via OpenStudio, DesignBuilder, etc. front ends); experience with Trane Trace 3D Plus, Carrier HAP, IESVE or similar software is acceptable Bachelors degree in a relevant field (e.g., mechanical engineering, renewable energy engineering, environmental science with a focus on energy efficiency / energy management, or closely related subject) Benefits
