Senior Data Engineer
District Partners has been exclusively engaged to identify a Senior Data Engineer for a federal contractor driving a multi-year digital transformation program in support of U.S. Customs and Border Protection. This is a senior, hands-on engineering role where you'll design and optimize data pipelines that directly impact national trade and travel security.
Important Requirement
This role requires
2-3 days per week onsite in Ashburn, VA.
Candidates must be fully comfortable with this schedule; no exceptions.
Clearance Requirement:
Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain DHS suitability clearance.
The Project
This five-year modernization initiative is transforming how federal agencies leverage data at scale. You'll engineer and optimize pipelines that process millions of transactions daily, applying cloud, big data, and automation tools to deliver mission-critical insights. With long-term program stability, this role offers both technical challenge and meaningful impact.
What You'll Do Build and optimize data pipelines that support analytics, dashboards, and enterprise applications Develop scalable data solutions using AWS services (S3, EMR, Redshift, DynamoDB) Design and maintain star schemas, fact/dimension tables, and other data warehouse artifacts Leverage Apache Spark, Hadoop, and Databricks for large-scale data processing Develop automation scripts (Bash, Python, PySpark) for workflow management Integrate streaming data with Kafka and manage real-time data flows Contribute to CI/CD pipelines with Git and Harness Collaborate in Agile/Scrum environments and communicate technical insights clearly Support data governance, metadata management, and enterprise data catalog initiatives MUST HAVE / What we're looking for:
B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science (preferred) Strong SQL and Java development skills Hands-on experience with Databricks and Delta Lake (Unity Catalog a plus) Knowledge of data warehousing, performance tuning, and big data architecture Advanced AWS cloud experience Solid background in scripting (Bash, Python) and automation Familiarity with BI tools such as Power BI Strong communication skills for cross-functional collaboration AWS certification (Data Analytics - Specialty or Solutions Architect) strongly preferred Terms
1-year contract with planned conversion to direct hire Long-term work expected (multi-year program already underway)
