About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Scala Developer to join our technology team supporting trading platforms for a leading capital markets institution. You will design and build scalable, high-performance backend systems that support real-time trading, order routing, settlements, and market data processing. This is a critical role within a fast-paced, front-office environment where performance, reliability, and low latency are essential. You must have valid US work authorization and must physically reside around the posted city, within a 50-mile commute. We are unable to support relocation costs. Key Responsibilities Design, develop, and maintain scalable, low-latency trading applications in Scala on the JVM. Collaborate with traders, quants, and infrastructure teams to deliver resilient, high-performance solutions. Build and optimize real-time, event-driven architectures (Kafka, Akka Streams). Develop APIs and services supporting execution, order management, trade settlements, and market data. Optimize applications for throughput and latency sensitivity. Ensure system reliability through automated testing, monitoring, and CI/CD. Enhance and modernize existing platforms across Scala/Java hybrid stacks. Participate in code reviews, architecture design, and agile team practices.

Required Skills & Experience

5+ years of backend software development, including 5+ years in Scala. Proven experience in capital markets (electronic trading, OMS, or market making). Strong understanding of functional programming and concurrency. Hands-on experience with Akka, Play, or related Scala frameworks. Expertise with real-time messaging (Kafka, JMS, FIX). Solid database skills (PostgreSQL, time-series DBs; kdb+/q is a plus). Familiarity with market data feeds (Bloomberg, Reuters, exchange). Strong communication skills to work closely with traders and quants. Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (Masters preferred).

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of financial products (equities, derivatives, fixed income). Experience with Apache Spark for large-scale analytics. Exposure to DevOps tools (CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes). Additional programming experience in Java, Python, or C++. Understanding of capital markets regulations (MiFID II, SEC). Experience in Agile/Scrum environments.
