Sr. Software Engineer (Backend) role at Allara. Allara is a telemedicine platform delivering expert, multidisciplinary healthcare for women with hormonal conditions. The platform pairs patients with a dedicated care team to provide expert medical guidance, nutrition and lifestyle coaching, and personalized treatment plans. Location: Hybrid SoHo office in NYC at least three days a week (Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday) with flexibility as needed OR Remote (U.S.). Your Impact
Design and implement scalable, secure APIs and microservices that power our care delivery platform Architect and optimize database schemas, query performance, and data pipelines Contribute to the design and deployment of backend services in AWS, collaborating with DevOps on containerization and IaC Lead backend system design decisions and establish architectural patterns and best practices Develop integration solutions with third-party healthcare systems and services Ensure platform security, HIPAA compliance, and data privacy across all backend systems Support code quality through code reviews, automated testing, and comprehensive documentation Drive continuous improvement in engineering practices, including deployment processes, monitoring, and incident response Collaborate with frontend engineers to design effective API contracts and data models Investigate and resolve complex platform performance issues and incidents Required Qualifications
5+ years of backend software engineering with a track record of building scalable, production systems Deep expertise in server-side programming languages and frameworks (NodeJS/TypeScript preferred) Strong understanding of API design principles (REST, GraphQL) and microservices architecture Strong database design and optimization skills (PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar) Experience developing applications on cloud platforms, ideally AWS (EC2, RDS, Lambda, SQS, etc.) Proficiency with containerization (Docker) and familiarity with orchestration (ECS, Kubernetes) Understanding of infrastructure-as-code tools (AWS CDK preferred) Experience with monitoring, logging, and alerting systems (Datadog, New Relic, or similar) Experience with CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills; able to debug complex distributed systems Strong collaboration and communication skills; effective with cross-functional teams Bonus Points
Experience in regulated industries, especially healthcare (HIPAA) Experience with event-driven architectures and message queuing Experience with authentication/authorization systems and security best practices Familiarity with React/React Native for frontend collaboration Experience with performance optimization at scale What Allara Offers
