Supply Chain Engineer, Mechanical Systems (Starshield) Hawthorne, CA Starshield leverages SpaceXs Starlink technology and launch capability to support national security efforts. While Starlink is designed for consumer and commercial use, Starshield is designed for government use, with an initial focus on earth observation, communications, and hosted payloads. We are looking for talented, creative, and driven engineers to develop, drive, and maintain suppliers, from initial concept development to full scale production. This is a high-profile, cross-functional role that collaborates with internal engineering and manufacturing teams and directly with suppliers to enable production goals. You will see assemblies come to life through in-house integration and supplier development." Responsibilities Improve quality, cost, delivery, and capacity metrics for mechanical hardware used in Starshield satellite and ground station systems. Collaborate with design, materials, and manufacturing engineers to understand piece parts, assemblies, metrology, and sub-system design intent. Support procurement by strategically sourcing parts matched with supplier competencies and by evaluating supplier manufacturing processes and quality systems. Define supplier technical and quality requirements based on customer and program needs for NPI and production phases. Lead resolution of supplier quality issues through root cause analysis, coordinating with purchasing, engineering, production, and suppliers. Define product technical requirements and ensure supplier compliance. Implement and monitor the Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) with selected suppliers to enable rate production. Analyze supplier quality and delivery metrics to identify trends and gaps; drive improvement plans. Conduct independent research to identify potential new suppliers and capabilities in manufacturing and metrology. Identify and drive product and process improvements to lower part cost, reduce supply risk, eliminate defects, and improve cycle time. Establish strong communication and relationships with suppliers to manage mission-critical supply chain activities. Demonstrate ownership, proactivity, technical excellence, creativity, self-direction, and courage; collaborate with teams and lead projects to improve the supply base.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in an engineering or STEM discipline. 1+ years of experience in a manufacturing and/or process engineering role, or internship experience in engineering.

Preferred Skills and Experience

Ability and willingness to obtain a Top Secret clearance. Solid understanding and application of GD&T. Proven track record of owning projects, negotiating to reduce costs, and influencing engineering customers. Knowledge of statistical techniques (design of experiments, Six Sigma). Knowledge of lean, production, and supply chain concepts. Strong analytical, problem-solving, time management, and organizational skills. Ability to act quickly in a fast-moving, high-stress environment.

Additional Requirements

Willingness to work long hours and weekends when needed to meet critical deadlines. Travel up to 2560% of the work week may be required. Valid drivers license.

Compensation and Benefits

Pay ranges: Supplier Development Engineer/Level I: $95,000 $115,000 per year Supplier Development Engineer/Level II: $110,000 $130,000 per year Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related knowledge, education, and experience. Base salary is part of SpaceX total rewards, which may include stock or stock options, discretionary bonuses, and other benefits.
