Infirmary Health is seeking a dynamic and visionary Director of the Infirmary Cancer Center to lead and advance its oncology service line as the preeminent cancer care program in the region. This position provides strategic, operational, and clinical leadership for the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered, and value-based cancer care across the health system, in alignment with the Infirmary Health mission and the collaborative partnership with the UAB ONeal Comprehensive Cancer Center (NCI-designated). Reporting to As the Institute Director, he/she will report to the Executive VP/COO of the Health System with matrix reporting to the Executive VP IMC Clinics and Health System CMO. The Director will work in a Dyad model with the Administrator Director of the Cancer Institute.

Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership & Vision

Provide strategic leadership to establish Infirmary Cancer Care as the regional leader in cancer treatment and prevention. Oversee execution and implementation of the Cancer Strategic Plan as developed in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, including UAB ONeal CCC, and approved by the IHS Board. Guide the development of new cancer care facilities in collaboration with health system leadership.

Clinical & Program Development

Champion multidisciplinary, integrated cancer care that emphasizes clinical excellence, innovation, and compassionate, patient- and family-centered service. Implement and maintain clinical pathways, evidence-based protocols, and centers of excellence in alignment with the most clinically advanced cancer treatment standards. Ensure the highest quality, value-based care with external recognition and measurable outcomes. Oversee cancer care delivery across all inpatient and outpatient oncology services systemwide.

Collaboration & Partnership

Build and maintain a patient-centered academic and clinical relationship with UAB ONeal CCC to support joint research, education, and clinical innovation. Cultivate strong, productive relationships with physicians, advanced practice providers, and other stakeholders across Infirmary Health. Maximize integration of cancer services within the Infirmary Medical Clinics and affiliated hospitals.

Growth, Access & Outreach

Identify and execute opportunities to grow cancer service volumes through recruitment, program development, community engagement, and enhanced access to care. Lead efforts to expand surgical oncology and other key service lines. Support and expand outreach programs, prevention, screening initiatives, and regional access to oncology care. Assist with community education, support groups, public relations, and marketing related to oncology services.

Research, Quality & Accreditation

Direct all cancer research, outcomes analysis, and quality/performance improvement initiatives with support from internal teams and academic partners. Oversee efforts to achieve and maintain appropriate accreditations and certifications through national organizations and cancer-specific bodies.

Advocacy & Representation

Represent Infirmary Cancer Care on local, state, and national platforms, fostering visibility and advocacy in relevant professional associations. Collaborate with Infirmary Health Foundations to enhance philanthropic efforts and grow financial support for cancer programs, patient services, and research.

Ideal Candidate Qualifications

Proven leadership in a complex oncology setting, preferably within an integrated health system. Strong clinical background with an M.D., D.O., or equivalent degree; board certification in a cancer-related specialty is highly preferred. Experience with program development, clinical integration, and multidisciplinary team management. Demonstrated success in building academic and research collaborations. Commitment to quality, patient experience, and health equity.
