UNIT SPECIFIC DUTIES:
* Responsible for assisting in patient/staff education and support in all
aspects of lactation management. * Implements standards of care, policies and procedures for breastfeeding
management. * Assists in providing ongoing education for staff on successful lactation
management. * Assists in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating teaching
materials and methods used for antepartum and postpartum breastfeeding
teaching, in a one on one consultation or class context. * Provides telephone counseling to breastfeeding mothers in the
community. * Collaborates with physicians, nurses and families to establish and
maintain a team approach to promote successful lactation. * Evaluates, maintains, and assists with the use of appropriate
breastfeeding aids and equipment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES, LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIRED:
* Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing * Licensed as a RN in the State of Georgia in good standing without limitations. * Must hold Certified in American Heart Association's Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS).
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION PREFERRED:
* BSN degree * Two (2) years of experience as a Registered Professional Nurse (RN). * One (1) year experience in lactation. * National Certification in Specialty (IBCLC). * Additional Life Support credential (ACLS, PALS, NRP, etc.) or other clinical specialty certifications in specific units. * Visual color acuity depending on the role in specific units.
