Overview

Receptionist- Internal Medicine- Full Time
Office hours: Monday through Thursday 8 am - 5 pm, Friday 8 am - 4:30 pm

Responsibilities

  • Acknowledges and welcomes patients and visitors.
  • Informs staff of patient/visitor arrival and provides instruction, assistance and information as to completion of required paperwork and waiting times.
  • Answers general questions about the facility: location, rest rooms, elevators, hours of operation, etc.
  • Ensures waiting area is clean, tidy, and has appropriate patient announcements and brochures.
  • As directed, conveys information to patients and/or visitors.
  • Assists patients or calls for assistance with patients with ambulatory difficulties.
  • Obtains registration information from patient for input into EPIC; verifies and/or updates demographic and health plan information.
  • Checks patients in and out of clinic; collects payments and posts them in EPIC; balances daily cash and collections.
  • Provides patients with information regarding payment obligations, HIPAA Notice of Privacy practices, clinic policies, and collects all required forms and signatures.
  • Schedules appointments into EPIC according to Practice protocol and conveys schedule changes to appropriate staff.
  • Reviews next day's schedules and prints physician schedules in advance of visits as directed.
  • May assist patients with obtaining appointments at other physician and hospital sites and/or schedules lab or radiology testing.
  • Maintains patient charts and filing; prepares charts to clinic and/or Practice specifications.
  • Answers multi-line calls, takes accurate messages, and directs calls to appropriate staff.
  • Understands limits of responsibility by not providing medical advice to patients.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Prefer one year of experience in a customer service setting, preferably in a medical office with basic knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Able to type a minimum of 30 wpm (strongly preferred).
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Service orientation: able to provide excellent service, friendly and approachable demeanor, and confidentiality.
  • Organization: able to provide order and structure to daily processes.
  • Verbal communication: ability to interact with people of varying backgrounds, convey information clearly, and demonstrate listening, tact, empathy, and confidentiality.
  • Multi-tasking: capable of greeting, message taking, and checking patients in/out while maintaining accuracy.
  • Adaptability: flexible and able to adjust to changing activities; maintains calm under pressure.
  • Teamwork: works effectively with others and offers assistance as needed.
  • Computer proficiency: ability to learn EPIC software and basic Microsoft applications.

The compensation for this role includes a base pay range of $15.00-21.00, with the actual pay determined by factors such as skills, experience, education, certifications, geographic location, and internal equity. Additional compensation may be available through shift differentials, bonuses, and other incentives. Base pay is only a portion of the total rewards package.
