Cashier
Purpose Statement The job of Cashier is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the food service activities at assigned location with specific responsibilities for collecting funds for daily meal transactions; balancing accounts and depositing funds utilizing established accounting practices; and reviewing Free and Reduced Program applications.
This job reports to Director of Child Nutrition Services.
Essential Functions
Attend unit meetings, in-service training, workshops, etc. for gathering information required to perform job functions. Collect payments for food items from students and staff (e.g. cash, ID scan, payment tickets, etc.) for completing transactions and/or securing funds for food selection. Monitor kitchen and cafeteria areas for ensuring a safe and sanitary working environment. Monitor students' food choices for ensuring compliance with established financial and student nutrition guidelines. Perform food service functions, on a limited basis as assigned (e.g. setting up and breaking down serving stations, serving food, etc.) for supporting cafeteria operations and service delivery. Prepare sales transaction documents (e.g. daily cash receipts, record breakfast and lunch counts, etc.) for providing written support and/or conveying information. Process daily transaction data (e.g. sales transactions, etc.) for documenting activities, maintaining accurate account balances, and/or conveying information. Reconcile cash and credit receipts to meal counts for maintaining accurate account balances and complying with established policies and/or procedures. Report equipment malfunctions for maintaining equipment in safe working order. Respond to inquiries of students, staff and the public for providing information and/or direction regarding the type and/or cost of meals and food items, account balances, etc.

Performs other related duties as assigned for ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
SKILLS are required to perform single, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include adhering to safety practices; preparing and maintaining accurate records; operating standard office equipment; and using pertinent software applications.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily
perform the functions of the job include safety practices and procedures; district cash collection policies and procedures; and food preparation, handling and sanitation practices.
ABILITY is required to schedule activities and/or meetings; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined and similar processes; and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with a variety of data; and utilize job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited to moderate. Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include communicating with diverse groups; and working with interruptions.
Responsibility Responsibilities include working under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods; leading, guiding, and/or coordinating others; monitoring budget expenditures. Utilization of some resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions. There is a continual opportunity to have some impact on the organization's services.
Work Environment The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 5% sitting, 5% walking, and 90% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and in a generally hazard free environment.
Experience:
Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is desired.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent.
